A young cricketer has died after being hit by a ball in Greater Manchester.
Tim Melville, 19, was batting for Wallasey, from Wirral in Merseyside, in a Cheshire under-21s match at Hyde on Sunday when he was hit in the chest.
He collapsed and was given first aid before being taken to Tameside General Hospital, where he died.
A spokesman for Wallasey Cricket Club confirmed the incident took place, but declined to comment further as Mr Melville’s family are away on holiday.
A spokesman for Hyde Cricket Club said: “It is very sad to see such a thing happen to such a fine young man.”
