This is just too exciting for words, really, isn’t it? Bring this monster on. I’ll be on commentary for the duration, so join us over there and, in the meantime, if you have any thoughts, you know what to do. It’s nil-all, the forecast is good for Thursday, horrendous for Friday but better for the weekend.

Can England survive three sessions on a wearing pitch? Can they balls.
Previously
Day four. It all went horrifically wrong for England.
Previously…
Day three. Ponting and Katich are well-set. It’s looking horrible for England…
Previously…
Day two is upon us. England are in a healthy position but still need 400. Can Stuart Broad heave them over the line?
Previously…
At last. The greatest series of them all is upon us, and once again we can waste several weeks of pontification, argument and deliberation while watching it. Well, you lot can, I’ll be working, but still – this is what every English and Australian fan lives for. And quite a few who don’t even support those two countries. Bring this beast on.
Follow me on Cricinfo’s commentary throughout the series, and there’ll be a post here each day of the series for you to chat if you’re so inclined.

Sorry for the lack of updates. A lack of time, and an abundance of snow, makes for crap bloggage. But fear not for the Test is about to start, and West Indies Tests are always brilliant for Britons: you can claim a dodgy stomach at about lunchtime (the canteen can help here) and head home to enjoy the cricket. In fact, that’s what I did about five years ago.
I cannot, but will be watching and covering every ball, so keep your eyes peeled on Cricinfo for our comms and general brilliance, and chat away in the comments like the champions you all are.

Have just moved house so there’s been no time for anything. And nor is there any now but, if you like, keep an eye on the match and offer your thoughts below.

Cricket. Actual cricket is happening with real-life English and Indian players. It’s all very novel and exciting, so I thought I’d keep this post open for the Test and let you miserable lot leave your comments. There’s a detracted feeling to this series, but if Kevin Pietersen’s XI can pull off a draw – or even a win – the praise will be long and lavish. Let’s hope there’s some good cricket in which to end the year and provide a fitting sporting contrast to the events of the past few weeks.

Unless you’re particularly masochistic, or have absolutely no life, most Britons won’t have seen much of this one-day series. However, we have another day-night match tomorrow, which gives the rest of us a chance to witness England’s horrors in all its gruesome, filthy, achingly inexplicable form. That’s right: it’s the fifth of seven hundred ODIs and it gets underway on Wednesday morning, at the really rather reasonable hour of 9am.
So grab your skinny, soya, wet lattes with wings and head over to Cricinfo to experience one of winter’s great joys: one-day cricket in the subcontinent. Watch Ian Bell hit 9 from 20 balls, turning down easy singles in a blind panic. Witness Paul Collingwood fail to hit anything through the off-side. Question Graeme Swann’s mental state and sympathise with Kevin Pietersen. Grit your teeth and hold onto your swivel chairs as Peter Moores attempts to calm us down by insisting: “they’re trying really, really hard” and “the batsmen look a million dollars in the nets”.
Alternatively, do what I’m doing and cheer on the underdogs’ underdog, Bangladesh, to see if they can stave off a two-day whipping.

It’s here. It’s arrived. We’re about to enter the abyss, it feels – or that must be how the players are feeling, some three hours away from winning an implausibly huge some of money. The winners, as Ann Robinson would say, leave with nothing.
So, keep your eyes peeled on Cricinfo or have a listen to BBC’s commentary, and – most importantly of all – leave your thoughts about the impending farce or spectacle below.

We’ve barely had time to catch our breath from Lord’s, but here we are with another Test upon us. England are already feeling the strain: Sidebottom’s crock, so is Anderson (well, duh) and Broad has apparently snapped his ankle. Or something less severe, probably. A roof-tiler has been called up (Darren Pattinson. What do you mean you’ve never heard of the Grimsby-born, Australian-raised, Nottinghamshire quick with a slightly chest-on action who probably bowls a “heavy ball”? It’s only the bestest rags-to-riches story this week). But who frankly gives a toss about any of these chancing chancers when Andrew Flintoff is back in the side?
Until he breaks down with a rare stress fracture of his left buttock at about midday on Saturday, let’s enjoy his 5 for 21 from 94 overs and blistering 18 from seven balls. Here is the scorecard. You know what to do. No, not that – that.

England are owning this Test, but they’re by no means going to walk this victory. Sri Lanka were bowled out cheaply here in 2006 and responded in their follow-on with a monstrous effort, the figures of which I’ve utterly forgotten and can’t be bothered to check. That said, Monty is bowling like a dream on a pitch offering increased turn. Scorecard. Commentrs. You know the deal. Be prolific.

Huge first innings of 593 for 8 by England, how will Graeme Smith and Neil McKenzie get on? Here’s the scorecard. Leave a gazillion comments like the frenzied animals you all are.

Genuinely enthralling day’s cricket yesterday. Who needs Twenty20 (etc etc). Keep your eye on the scorecard today and wibble away like champions in the comments.
(Edit: woops. I didn’t mean New Zealand…!)

I thought I’d start up the live-chats we did a couple of years ago, now that the South Africans are here and let’s face it…it should be a more engaging series than the New Zealanders’ (though I personally thought it was a belter against the Kiwis).
So, keep glued to Cricinfo’s scorecard and whatever else, and in the meantime chat away in the comments below.

So the fourth day of the third Test and India are superbly placed to cause an upset. Australia need another 348 runs to win; India, another eight wickets. If Australia chase the runs down, it’ll be the second-highest run chase in the history of the game…while also handing them their 17th win in a row. It’s all rather massive.
I’m going to attempt to get up for the final session of the day, if the Test is still alive. In the meantime, check the scorecard and leave your comments below.

We might just get a whole day’s play today. No, what am I saying? This is The North! The forecast is much better for today so let’s at least hope we have a contest on our hands.
