I was about to pour scorn on England’s filthy performance today, but the following site just popped up on Google Reader…and reminded me just how pointless and insignificant sport is. It’s almost laughable! Reuters photographic coverage of Kenya has been outstanding and, for any fans of photographic journalism, the following (horrific) photos are a must. In fact, even if you don’t care for photography, it’s worth reminding yourself what is happening in Kenya.

Okay, Andrew Flintoff, here’s your chance. Apparently he’s been stepping up the gas in the nets – and also bowling quite fast – so today’s match against Kenya represents an ideal opportunity for him to single handedly boost England’s fledgling confidence. Kenya take on New Zealand today – can’t wait to hear how that goes. New Zealand looked good against England (not hard) but Kenya…well, I really fancy their chances. How they cope with the tournament’s most outstanding fast bowler, Shane Bond, will be interesting.

I’ve always been interested in the lower echelons of cricket, and was pleasantly surprised at the standard of cricket – in particular from Kenya, Scotland and Ireland – during the World Cricket League in Nairobi. But I remain realistic of their ability and a little clueless as to how they can develop and close the gap on Full Member nations.
What about you? This blog has never concentrated on any one aspect of the game – ok, so England have received a fair bit of attention – and most of you seem to have a broad interest of the game. Do you care about Ireland, Netherlands or Canada? Will you watch them in the World Cup? Do you follow their progress on other sites and, if so, which ones? Are you even aware Bermuda have a side?
Tell all.

Jambo, winners. If there was any doubt that I had landed in the wrong country, it all came hurrying back to me as I handed over the best part of £50 to the Croatian taxi driver just now. Welcome back to Britain.
Jet-lagged frustrations aside, Kenya was absolutely bloody incredible. Go there immediately. And the cricket was impressive too, particularly from Kenya. More on that later. In fact, more on all of that later. I have enough presents and crap to start a small shop – really mmmmmarvellous merchandise there. Super stuff all round.
And what’s all this “England in one-day win shocker” malarkey about? I dismissed the first text message I received as a wind-up. The sender of the second was clearly cavorting with the first. But I couldn’t ignore the third, from a colleague (aloha Gnasher). Even after spending two weeks laughing (understandably) at my too frequent bowel movements in Africa, he wouldn’t lie about England winning a one-dayer…particularly a final. If anyone has highlights on DVD, send this way…asante sana.
Expect more Swahili (or Sheng, the new dialect: Swahili, English and Hindu) shortly. Karibu! Here’s a photo.
Will Luke in Kenya

Will’s not one to blow his own trumpet. Instead, he pays me to do it for him. Of course, he’s in Kenya.
Most people that go to Kenya seem to go there for big game hunting. Will is hunting for new cricket talent with the World Cricket League, and he’s blogging about it for Cricinfo.
In today’s game, the Atlantic Island of Bermuda is taking on the hosts. They didn’t make a great fist of their first innings, being bowled out for 133. That they got that far was almost entirely due to their wicketkeeper, Dean Minors, who scored 52. Not the youngest of chaps, in fact he’s even older then I am, but the bright young stars of tomorrow sometimes need the wisdom of the elderly.
Anyhow Will’s over there reporting it for Cricinfo, so be sure to go check it out.

I’ve been closely following Kenyan cricket in the past few months, as I’m off to Nairobi in a couple of weeks to cover the World Cricket League. Non-Test cricket has always interested me, but I freely admit that only until quite recently did I realise it had such a following. Kenya’s game looks and sounds in very good order at the moment, too.
I didn’t watch today’s one-dayer between Kenya and Scotland – the first in the ICC Tri-Series at Mombasa – but followed it on the scorecard from our scorer at the ground, and from our man-on-the-spot, David Waters, who kindly gave us some colour. Scotland took a right pasting and there was a fifty from Ravi Shah, making his comeback, who is one of the very classiest (so I’m told) non-Test batsmen out there. It’ll be terrific seeing him and others in Nairobi, and also watching the standard of cricket (and the level of interest).
