BBC gaffe

By Will 1 month ago, 3 Comments »

Poor old Beeb. Without the advent of digital cameras - or worse, the dreaded cameraphone as used below - all their gaffes would avoid posterity. But anyway. I just got in from work and was listening to a dull report about the endless credit crunch, and one woman’s plight on being unable to secure an overdraft, bless her. Her name?

Maybe that really is Major General Andy Salmon, Commander of the British Forces in Basra. But he doesn’t look like he’s done much on the front line, does he? Channel 4 are no better either…it’s good to know the big media giants aren’t quite as flawless as they’d like!

The brilliance of Adrian Chiles

By Will 1 month ago, No Comments; be the first!

Whoever let Adrian Chiles have a prime-time slot on BBC1 should be sainted. His friendly, brummie accent lures you into innucous banter and mildly cheeky presenting. On the surface, that is. Because Chiles is blissfully unable to stop the closet comedian in him from escaping.

Adrian Edmondson was being grilled by Chiles, who was jokingly invited to play in Edmondson’s new band. “We could call it the Adrians,” Edmondson suggested. “Yeah,” said Chiles. “Or the Ades.”

THE ADES

Priceless, effortless brilliance from the man. After a second or two, the flaw in his suggestion was written all over his embarrassed face. Perhaps their support group could be the HIVes…

Even if the name doesn’t strike a chord with you, nor her voice ring any immediate bells, her crisp enunciation marks her out as the ultimate professional. Charlotte Green has been the voice of BBC’s Today Programme for most of my life and, as an announcer, is not known for her gaffes. Until today. Have a listen and read all about it here.

Gaffe of the week

By Will 2 years ago, mid-August, 1 Comment »

I was feeling quietly happy with myself. I’d trooped through the crowd to watch the Sugababes, took some photos, and headed back to add them to the piece I’d written. Except I assumed they were called the Sugar Babes! Better still, I’d got all three names of the singers wrong. Woe is me and my total lack of knowledge about anyone in the charts.

They were bloody good an ‘all, those Sugababes.
