Or nearly. He’s on the cusp, as they say. Let your tributes come flowing in for the great man. Tributes, hate-mail – the usual.

A great fighter, having only six appearances between 1994-2000, he established himself as a permanent member in the sqad at the age of 28 and was quite detrimental in Australia´s world cup wins. A fantastic batsman to watch.

Rather a nihilist who behaves like a gentleman than a sanctimonious Christian who behaves like a thug

I will miss Haydos, I don’t feel we will see this type of opening batsman again for at least another generation. His play was based on brute power and an arrogance epitomised right up to his final knock- he wanted to go out fighting with his boots on as any gunslinger would.
His spouts with bowlers particulalry the Bhaji have been well documented, but he never gave an inch as the tussle with jones, collingwood and strauss demonstrated.
The next generation of AUS opener will struggle to fill his shadow in more ways than one.
I’m pleased he went with dignity and did not chase that one final hurrah
I hope he enjoys retirement, I’m sure he will
