It’s the complete opposite. By not having a single team that is the outright best, then there will be far more interest in test cricket.

Steyn the difference between the sides. For the rest, it was reasonably even.
South Africa showed how to win with style and grace – and I didn’t think I would ever say that!
To state the obvious, Australia needs to find a strike bowler (or two) if it wants to win Test matches against decent batting sides.
Ponting ok to me. All captains look good when the team wins, look ordinary when the team screws up.
Australian domination is dead. Long live Australian domination!
Interesting times ahead…..

I think it’s good that our dominance has ended, at least it wasn’t another Ashes defeat that spelled the end
Australian cricket needed a bit of a shake up, so as to bring in the next generation of players.
We all knew it was going to happen once Warne and McGrath retired, most of us however were hoping it wouldn’t happen so quickly.
Congrats to Graeme Smith and the Proteas for the way they have played and also for the sportsmanship and humbleness which G. Smith has displayed, very worthy successors I say.

As an Aussie cricket fan – sure it will be disappointing to sit through a number of losses over the next few years but I will be comforted by the fact that it will be far worse for Ricky Ponting. I find his talk of rebuilding humorous as I think his attitude as captain is part of the problem. He has always been a great batsman but he’s only able to captain the team when they are winning. He’s not a fighting captain – too much of a sulker and bad loser. The Aussie team will have no chance of regaining #1 until he’s replaced as captain and the attitude that he has cultivated in the team dies off.

I don’t think Australia have to be _replaced_ for it to be good for world cricket.

The current situation is pretty good actually. If England and Sri Lanka pick up their performances a bit, we actually have 5 teams that should all provide competitive Tests.
