England’s India tour gets green light

By Will 2 years ago, at the start of December Add your comment below

It’s on. Cricinfo is breaking it. That is quite a surprise, I have to admit, that Andrew Flintoff and Steve Harmison are both going. It seemed increasingly unlikely they would. Kevin Pietersen might be feeling a bit jaded and sick of all things security, but he has come out very well indeed from this fracas.

On similar lines, I was thinking yesterday how thankless captaincy really is. If England didn’t make it back to India, there would inevitably have been some criticism aimed at Pietersen. Were the squad really behind him? Is he truly a leader of men, or are those rumoured sensibilities of selfishness coming through? None of that has happened. He’s got the whole squad with him, and although he alone cannot be held responsible for persuading each and every one of his team, his influence will have been huge.

Roll on Thursday. Let’s just hope the grounds are packed.

Yep, I was wrong – I serioiusly never thought they would go back. Good luck England, I think you will need it…

PS: no umpoires announced for tests yet? Possibly 2 home umpires for the first time in a long time?

I agree TG, England will need alot of luck here, to help them combat the mass distractions..

England prolly deliberately chose Madras not because of its so-called secure envronment but more because of the obvious eventuality of the game being washed out.
This is rainy season in that part of India.
So basically if England can hold on in Mohali ie. bat long & bowl with defensive fields, look to strangle the Indian batsman for long periods—-there is a definite possibility of a 0-0.
Mohali at this time is 1 of the flattest pitches in the world.

If fans thought England wouldn’t come back than they have been proved wrong. But here ,noone had any doubts.
Someone raised a point about the umpires being home umpires.
1.Tests have no home umpires. Both umpires are neutral. So even 1 home umpire will be ‘first time after long time’.
2.Asad rauf will be replaced.I’m not sure but I think its Bowden & Harper. Both umpires will be ICC elite panel umpires & obviously neutral.I don’t know where this sort of incorrect info pops up from.
    Crowds??
If the game isn’t washed out ,you’ll have a full house in South India.Even if its a rain interrupted game,I’m pretty sure the stadium will be jam-packed.
Mohali game will be a different story.

I read that Bowden will replace Rauf for 1 test, and there’s hope he’ll get a visa in time for the second. I thought England should go ahead and tour, but I am slightly surprised that they’re actually doing it.
