India’s Pakistan tour in doubt

By Will 2 years ago, at the end of November Add your comment below

…and here we reach the most dangerous crossroads of all. The one terrorist India managed to capture happened to be of Pakistani origin, and there is increasing evidence that Pakistan were involved in the terrorist strikes. It seems inconceivable that India’s tour won’t be cancelled. Pakistan have warned the world that they’ll stop fighting the Afghanistan insurgents and turn their attention to India instead. It’s all getting a bit messy.

Steve Waugh’s thoughts on the future of the game:

The danger to cricket is that the game needs India and any long-term interruption will have major ramifications. At present we have Pakistan cricket crippled by the threat

of terrorism, Sri Lanka regularly blighted by a civil war and Zimbabwe mismanaged by corrupt administrators and government.

The game is on the verge of a crisis and clear, concise thinking will be required from the various cricketing bodies to make sure that the correct decisions are made.

Time is a great healer but, much like 9/11, life on the subcontinent will never be the same. The need for security will be paramount and this will affect all facets of life.

My gut feeling is that cricket will see an interruption in the short term but business will resume as normal shortly afterwards.

Ok this post of yours unlike the Should England play…
    makes a point.
India’s Western,North-western & Northern borders have been for all practical purposes been sealed. So pakistan can turn all the attention they want on India’s borders but the fact is that the frankenstein monster they’ve created is too powerful for them to control.Their govnmt can’t control terrorism & they are soft targets. There are 4 blasts a week in Pakistan on average.Their security forces have too much to do to be focussing on India.

I believe 4 were Indians & the rest Pakistani. But you see the training these guys recieved was from Pak-based terrorist groups. The terrorist that India has captured is singing.& as you point out there is clinching evidence because of a few bungles the Terrorists made -like leaving their sat phone in the trawler that they used to get to India.
In view of all this unless Pakistan cleans up their act & cooperates with the indian govmnt (coz paks govnmnt isn’t strong enough to root out terrorism form their country) there is no way India will play with a country that its at war with.Yes this ain’t war but its proxy-war all right.& No their govnmnt isn’t really responsible for it coz they’re weak. But if they don’t cooperate with India than they will be responsible. They aren’t cooperating.India ain’t playing.

    no chance

no chance of england going back to india
no chance of the champions league taking place in india
no chance of india going to pak

India and pakistan may have to opt for games at Sharjah or Abu Dhabi in the short term..

I do think even as you write the English team is getting ready to travel back to India and if this happens I applaud their decision. The message should be given out LOUD and CLEAR.

    TG,
    Are you sure my friend?
Except for no chance of india going to pak everything else that you’ve written is incorrect.
England is coming back to India maybe without 4 guys.
Champs league will take place in India because India isn’t going to Pakstan. So they sort of get a window there.
CA & CSA will also do a lil tweaking & we’ll have the champs league in India.Pakstans team might not come but that hardly bothers anybody.
    To Gaurav,
I agree with you but I don’t “applaud” the English teams decision.I “agree” with their decision.
