God, I think I love Bill Lawry. Just listen to this collection of blinkered, one-eyed, completely OTT commentary. He is an inspiration to someone, somewhere, and let’s hope he gives birth to a new generation of ridiculously enthusiastic commentators. Take it away, Bill, you ruddy bluddy legend.

The 12th Man impression of him is brilliant- “Gottim! Piss off, you’re out!” That bit made the “best of” collection, and if you’ve heard it, it’s not hard to see why.
My favourite real-life Lawry moment- when Cam White hit two sixes off the first two balls of an over- “Well the great Gary Sobers did it, can Cameron White do it tonight?” Cue Tony Greig- “Come on now Bill, I know he’s a Victorian but he’s not quite Garfield Sobers!”
Come to think of it, I think the Lawry-Greig ripostes are one of the highlights of the Australian season.
