Cheerleaders turn blue

By Will 2 years ago, at the end of April Add your comment below

The rights of cheerleaders to do what they do best – cheer, half-nakedly – are being cruelly restrained in India. And quite honestly, I’ve had enough, so in the spirit of the free and democratic internet, it’s our misson – no, obligation – to catalogue the events in the medium of photos. Here are the lovely ladies prior to being asked to cover up:

But the Maharashtra police got in a right tizz about the flesh on show, and their natural attributes have now been painted blue. It’s a walking, garish travesty.

Cricinfo reports it as follows:

Modesty is the best policy
The Deccan Chargers’ cheerleaders followed the police dictact to dress in a “decent manner” during yesterday’s match in the outskirts of Mumbai. The cheerleaders wore full length tights beneath their regular outfits and the police were pleased with the way things panned out. “Our personnel were keeping a tight vigil on the performances. I am glad to say everything went off smoothly. We did not find anything objectionable in the dances or the dresses,” Ramrao Wagh, the Navi Mumbai police commissioner, told the Hindustan Times

I don’t know if this is just a coincidence, but the local cheerleaders (who include men) are covered up, but I haven’t seen the imported cheerleaders (who are all lovely ladies) in tights or arm-legging things. And may I just add, the clothes that you see on actresses in Bollywood films these days don’t look too different from the American cheerleaders.
And saris aren’t exactly the way to go when you want to cover your women up.

It’s strange, no-one I know really seems to mind the cheerleaders. It’s just the far-right in Mumbai trying to speak for everybody.

Amusing pretense at “decency” from the country that perfected the wet sari look – for mass distribution.

No 1 minds the cheergirls. It’s just that Mr.Pawar as you might or might not be aware is a politician. He heads the NCP in mumbai. They’d banned dance bars because of the humongous black money involved.
Right-wing opposition groups are milking this opportunity dry and hence you have what you have. They say”This is more VULGAR than dance bars, hence should be banned”.
Of course no1 buys that. But frankly we love the cheerleaders.
Also a wet sari covers most parts of the body doesn’t it.
Even I was a bit taken aback by the redskins dress code. Those are underpants, aren’t they??
    But,like I said we don’t mind.

It’s odd that people don’t want to notice the cricket and the amazing new strategies that have come up.Just fixated on the cheergals.I believe ,they come on screen for 3 out of 240 odd minutes of screentime.
It doesn’t hurt to see a kate or an emily wiggle her bosom suggestively after every 4,6 or wicket. We’re all men here aren’t we??
They’re infinitely better than those fancy dress wierdos in england who watch games in dress codes of pink, scarlet or magenta lace lingerie, aren’t they??
These guys are given way more airtime than these poor gals would ever get.

The mumbai indians cheerleaders had 2 girls and 2 boys who were in that blue attire from ball 1.They belong to the SDIPA(shiamak davar institute of performing arts).
They didn’t turn ‘BLUE’.Their attire has had no change.
These aren’t the cheerleaders in question.

The bangalore and hyderabad franchise cheergals now dress ‘conservatively’ in mumbai.Thats all there is to it.

This blog has in the past criticised the very existence of cheerleaders in cricket. Now it shows sympathy to them.
    I’m amused.
Constipation of the mind and diarrhoea of the mouth is what NS Sidhu would call it.

Of course, i didn’t expect any less.
