Warriors: put down your spears

What a great tale. Six Masai warriors from a remote Tanzanian village called Eluai are flying over to compete in the London Marathon a week on Sunday. The charity sponsoring it, Greenforce, have produced a four-page brochure – Visiting England: A Cultural Briefing for the Warriors – for the warriors to educate (warn?) them about the frenzied urban mess they are about to step into for the very first time.

“You may be surprised by the number of people that there are as they all seem to be rushing around everywhere,” reads a travel guide written by Greenforce, a British charity working with the village. “Even though some may look like they have a frown on their face, they are friendly people — many of them just work in offices, jobs they don’t enjoy, and so they do not smile as much as they should.”
What a damning verdict of western society, but how accurate. Welcome, warriors! May your car-tyre-shoes carry you to great success.
