New Zealand v England, 2nd Test, Wellington

By Will 2 months ago Leave a comment on this post

To windy Wellington we go for the second Test, with England lacking two of their most experienced fast bowlers, Matthew Hoggard (err - what?) and Steve Harmison. I’d have agreed with dropping Hoggard - if only to send shockwaves through the team that anything other than an excellent performance simply won’t suffice. But this is meant to be a green, seam-friendly swinger in Wellington - and as “talented” as Michael Vaughan thinks James Anderson is, reliable he is not. It’s all or nothing.

On that merry note, join us at Cricinfo for a full package of joyous fun and analysis and occasionally laughter. And, in between drinking yourself into a depressed stupor, leave a comment or three below.

Not convinced about dropping Hoggard, he has been our most consistant performer in previous years, had one bad game and they have pretty much axed him from the side.
Harmison’s career is bassicaly over now, I think after this series England need to stop changing the team around and compleatly focus on one set of eleven players ready for 2009.

I think it was wrong to drop Hoggard especially since Strauss made the team again. Still, I expect that England will win this test comfortably.

Dropping Hoggard after one bad game is frankly an insult after Harmison was allowed bad game after bad game with his place secure.

Why is it always the bowlers who get the blame for a bad result? Letting NZ make 470 was weak, but the pitch was as flat as a pancake. Then the England batsmen get out in two sessions. Who’s to blame again?

England’s chief asset seems to be Daniel Vettori at the moment…

If anyone needs to be dropped, it’s Bell.

neither a reliable wedge nor a doorcrasher - what’s his worth?

Strauss, Bell & Harmy gotta go. For good.

maybe it’s Vaughan who needs to go…

We are only 15 months away from the Ashes !

Keep Bell, he’s had a test average of 43 +/- 2 since the summer of 2006 and we need stability.

    Bin Harmison and Strauss.

Vaughan’s safe until the next whitewash from Australia, regardless of what happens between now and then.
