    A deserved outcome

By Will 2 months ago Leave a comment on this post

New Zealand deserved to beat this frightened, meek England side. It all happened so quickly, and I’ve had five (sorry to moan) hellishly awful nightshifts that I cannot string a proper sentence together. So - leave your more erudite offerings below. I’m off to sleep for three glorious days until Wellington.

Bob Willis today calling the English side “…..a rotting corpse….” was bit of harsh. However, like Fleming said last night, England don’t deserve to win.

Good thing about test cricket between two evenly matched sides is that the second test could be the exact opposite of what happened today. Probably not though!!

For the next test the following side should play:
    Cook
    Strauss
    Vaughan
    Bell
    Pietersen
    Collingwood
    Ambrose
    Broad
    Swann
    Sidebottom
    Hoggard.

What a shambles of a display and Im not just talking about the final day collapse. The slow over rate, the lack of will to win and in one instance it seems a desire to be elsewhere.

The revelation that Harmy’s wickets cost over £9000 each last year coupled with a truly spineless effort in this match must mean that he has played for England for the last time.

No doubt Broad will join the team instead. Hoggard too seems to be at the end of things. His age and injuries have combined to take away a bit of zip. Hoggie’s not a natural athlete and he cant afford to lose anything from his bowling.

The England management must be held to scrutiny for the negative batting and the selection policy. NZ had no problem playing 2 spinners on a slow pitch. England chose to play an unreliable Harmy on the worst sort of surface for him whilst ignoring Swann again.

The inclusive of Strauss almost from nowhere is also questionable when Shah was beginning to find his feet in the England set up.

Well done Sidebottom for his 10-fer and to Bell for a battling 50*.

It’s so frustrating watching England play - and lose from a good position - again. And I’m not even an England supporter. Where is their pride? And why aren’t they more embarrassed when they lose these games?

Otherwise I thoroughly enjoyed this nice relaxing game in whites.

What a complete mess, whenever we are put under pressure to chase a decent score to win a game we fall apart, England 81 all out v Sri Lanka, 110 all out v Sri Lanka, something has to be done.
Harmison just can not cope anymore, we have given him a chance and it is just over, one of his roles as a fast bowler is to be: aggressive, well he showed as much aggression as England’s first innings, the team has to be shaken up, give players like Shah and Anderson a game, what harm can it do?

Well as a Kiwi I was very interested to read the comments from English Cricket Reporters prior to the test. They had all but written New Zealand off and all the could talk about was this English team chock so full of talent should dispose of NZ fairly comfortably.NZ never giver up even though our resources are small compared with the UK we played the game in a positive manner not negative Fleeming was quite correct in his comments on the third day that only one team had turned up to play cricket. This was backed up by Ian Botham who said a team on a good batting strip has to be able to score more than two runs an over.I think this game showed two things Daniel Vettori is by far the best left arm spinnes in the world his variation is amazing and his control was fantastic. It really was the student and the Master out there when you compared him and Monty.England has a very long tail where New Zealand bats to eight,England only bats to Sixif they are lucky.New Zealand has about four Batsman that can force the pace and put pressure on the Bowling Attack England two.I guess maybe next time the English Cricket Writers will be a bit more objective when they analyse their oppenents because a few have egg on their face now.Pride comes before a fall and never wirte off our Colonial cousins.Your supporters are the best in the World and a Tribute to England.

Written off by the pompous pommy press, who thought all England had to do was turn up to win, the “mossie” has bitten back! This when NZ cricket has been decimated by the ICL v. IPL. NZer’s (unlike our Aussie neighbours) don’t as a rule enjoy blowing our own trumpets, but when we get the smug condesending comments from ex-public school boys who’ve never had to do a days work in their lives, we enjoy rubbing your noses in dog turd as much as the Aussies. Some of your commentators were already looking forward to the Ashes next summer and NZ were viewed as little more than a starter for the main menu. It has proved to be most unappetising!
