  • I think those speed guns are a load of crap. Somehow the white ball goes faster - I bowled 83-84mph in the Test match, and 93mph in the one-dayers. It's crazy. I hadn't bowled a ball for ten days.

    Trigger playing cricket

By Will 7 months ago Leave a comment on this post

The big news of the day is Roger Lloyd Pack, aka Trigger in Only Fools and Horses, played cricket in his youth.

Only Fools comfortably tops my favourite comedies and it’s a delicious thought to imagine what Trigger would have made of cricket, as a fan or player. I wonder if his attachment to his broom would have been the same as his bat?

Trigger: We have an old saying in the roadsweepers. “look afteryour broom”:
Rodney: And your broom’ll look after you
Trigger: No Dave, just “look after your broom”. and that’s what i’ve done.
Delboy: Trigger, just one question. if you’ve ad that broom for twenty years, have you actually swept any roads with it?
Trigger: yes, of course i have. but i’ve maintained it [picks up broom]This old broom, has had seventeen new heads, and fourteen new handle in its time.
Sid: ‘ow the ‘ell can it be the same bloody broom then?
Trigger: [holds up photograph] Well, here’s a picture of it, what more proof d’you need?

With a name like Trigger, one hopes he doesn’t take up umpiring, Dave.

Actually I’m sure he was on view from the boundary not so long ago.
