    Lee Germon is back

By Will last year, mid-December Leave a comment on this post

Good grief, there’s a blast from the past. Remember Lee Germon? He was ushered into the New Zealand captaincy about 12 years ago (1995?) - a Test debutant - but didn’t last long, cast into the wilderness. So I was surprised to read he’s back in a managerial capacity for Canterbury.

How do you pronounce his name? German? Ger-moan? Ga’mon. Ger-mon? I prefer German, just because it’s wrong.

    Will

It’s with a soft G and with the stress on the second syllable. Should have been West Indian really. :)

Didn’t he club about 60 runs in an over once?

I would like to club 60 runs in an over. Please let me know the procedure and availability. :P

PseudoKu, I can help you. I’ll bowl lobs and make sure to overstep four times in the over. Of course, if one of your slogs drops a few inches short of the boundary that’s your affair. And don’t expect Mr Germon to give me a second over, either…

It sounds like Lee Germon would have been a great contender for the French XI.

Germon was brought in as Captain of the NZ team by Glenn Turner to clean up the disgrace that was the NZ team in the mid ’90’s. At that time Chris Cairn’s, Adam Parore and a few others had developed a star syndrome where they thought they were bigger than the game. In fact they were a couple of spolied under-performing brats with no sense of self worth or history of the game. Both walked out on their team mates during the NZ tour of the West Indies. Germon played well above his ability and was a thoughtful captain-he should never have been axed to allow Parore to return. Unfortunately for Turner and Germon, there was a change of CEO of NZ cricket who was prepared to indulge both and soon both Turner and Germon were gone as NZ Cricket placed more value on these two so-called stars over the reputation of NZ cricket. Glenn Turner’s book-”Under the Covers” exposes those little shits for the average human beings they are. Frankly both were no better than average test cricketers. Cairns is now a failed businessman who has had to return to take Indian Rebel $ and that smart arse Parore hawks mortgages. Both regularly sell their stories to NZ womens magazines. Doesn’t that say everything about their character-need I say more…..? Germon on the other hand was a sucessful banker before moving to sports management.
