    Australian press threaten boycott

By Will last year, at the start of November Leave a comment on this post

Australia are gearing up to face Sri Lanka but a cloud is looming: the Aussie print media might boycott the Test because Cricket Australia have implemented a new policy in which they’re charging news organisations for permission to take photos.

How utterly blinkered Cricket Australia are. Any organisation that makes the ECB look vaguely competent is worthy of immediate ridicule. CA are renowned for major cock-ups. Remember the farce with the tickets for the last Ashes series? And of course the “fun police” inside the grounds. Cricinfo and other media companies also (if my memory serves me) had trouble at the grounds due to CA’s extortionate Wifi fees (all grounds in England are free, as well they should be). As if they don’t make enough money, they now want to risk their reputation and  for the sake of a few extra dollars.

I hope they boycott it. We do not want journalism following the same seedy, greedy path of television rights.

This has to be a contender for most misleadingly sensational headline. I’d much prefer if it was the Australian press threatening Geoffrey Boycott.

especially since its the international press who are the ones doing to boycott, not the locals - they have an agreement already with CA

Okay, so a couple of gullible Ausies fell for the Sub Editors by-line. How about the substance?

Will you are spot on, this is a disgrace. This cancer is spreading through all sports. I hope Reuters et all tell CA they can get stuffed if they want to head down this road. I really hate what this sport is becoming and what it stands for-the shafting of Hair, the greedy Indian Board of Control, the storm trooper Aussie crowd control, the ICC banning punters taking a modest amount of booze into Lords. Where will this madness end?

What next, banning the punters taking photo’s with their box brownies?

The same groups threatened to boycott the recently concluded rugby world cup. I think it was avoided at the last moment but it’s not just an Aussie thing.

Disgusting. I am stunned at the continual stupidity and mad management of cricket. Will some decent souls please infiltrate the game’s high ranks and restore sense. Please, Richie.

To paraphrase Lord Acton, ‘For cricket to face ruin, it is only necessary that good men [or women] do nothing’.

Play less cricket, and stop the obsession with money. We won’t need so much, anyway, if there are fewer administrators’ dinners and hotel fees to cover.
