A cricketing future for John Howard?

By Will last year, at the start of September Leave a comment on this post

The always enjoyable Spectator blog says John Howard’s tenure as Australia’s Prime Minister is coming to an end, if the (surprisingly reliable) opinion polls are anything to go by. Howard’s a self-confessed cricket nutter so what, if anything, will he do for the sport when his political career ends?

Howard’s interest in cricket is all good, but to me, he shall find a place in the Idiots XI, alongside Bishen Singh Bedi, for one.

So, by that yardstick, I don’t want him doing anything for cricket when he is shown the door as Prime Minister

It’s great that in Australia the Prime Minister can sit down and discuss cricket team selection. He’s got a pretty cushy job, him and his Minister for Fireworks.

I think that when Tony Blair comes to be judged, his ignorance of cricket will be seen, just behind Iraq, as his biggest flaw.

As an Australian who has had the misfortune of having Howard win every single election since I became old enough to vote (and I’m 32…), I’d like him to just butt the hell out.

Begone you horrible little man… it’s about time.

I’m with you loofer… it’s embarrassing watching him crawling to various cricketers and joining in like he’s one of the lads.

His biggest flaw is also our involvement in the Iraq invasion, among so many other things.

Bring on November, his departure is long, long overdue.

As long as he’s not considered for the position of bowling coach, I don’t care what he does. Anyone seen the video of him bowling in India? Classic. In fact, on the back of that effort, he should have been sacked from PM straight away. An Aussie PM who can’t bowl. Disgraceful.

You know the funny thing is that a good mate of mine played cricket with Howard’s son as a kid in Sydney, and Howard coached them a bit.

Apparently (and this doesn’t half grate…) he wasn’t all that bad, and the kids quite enjoyed it, but thought he was a gigantic nerd.

That bowling footage is an absolute shocker though. It was like watching Mr Burns bowl….

Oh yes the bowling footage, I thought of that the moment I first read the post. If you watch the people standing around in that footage you just know they’re all thinking “what a clown”.

    And they’re right!

Send him to Bagdad to coach to coach the Sunni XI. He and his mate Bush (along with the US’ lapdog-you Poms know who) created the mess, let them play in it!!

Between Howard’s bowling and Bush’s batting (remember Pakistan) there’s probably more danger coming from that than the entire Hezbollah network!

Seriously, we’ll just have to wait ’till election day to see what happens- and it’ll be my first time voting, so I’m looking forward to it. If his term comes to an end, well, that’s that.

Kevin Rudd as PM and Fred Thompson as President?

Maybe he could do something with John Major. Cricket-loving ex-PMs should stick together.
