£100,000 for six weeks work: welcome to ICL

By Will last year, at the end of August Leave a comment on this post

The rollercoaster that is the Indian Cricket League continues to gather momentum, and news reaches me from Dougie Brown, commentating on Test Match Special this afternoon, that some players have been offered in excess of £100,000 for their participation. An extraordinary sum of money.

But all this amounts to very little when you consider that the BCCI own all the grounds in India and therefore have banned any ICL match from taking place at any of their venues. Just where is this ICL heading, and at what cost to the game in India?

If they offered us 100,000 pounds, they could play on our grounds!

don’t worry about the grounds - there is already support from the Bengal government (so therefore Eden Gardens, Calcutta available) as well as the former ODI floodlit ground Nehru Stadium in Delhi plus all the Railway stadiums nationally and support from Laloo Yadav from th Bihar assocaition, there’s also a joint venture in place in Chennai with Pentamedia, who own their own grounds…plus could always take games to Abu Dhabi or Sharjah.

I wonder which English players have been approached (and it sounded like they have approached some English players). Perhaps they might try to get the likes of Gough, Caddick, Cork, Croft, Adams and Hick ?
