Not a bad ‘facelift’. Yes, it is a cool sort of effect.
Seems a tad anaemic though and a little difficult to distinguish the major ‘columns’ of the site.

Arun Kale has been beavering away designing the new theme for The Corridor, which you can now see. Huge congrats and thanks to him and we hope you’re as pleased as we are. It’s fresh, new, simple and pretty cool. Thoughts (even complaints) welcome.

So a new look, to go with the new boss hey Will?
BTW – nice look. Particularly “cricket” with predominantly white and a hint of red…Cool.
Looks nice, although the pages are taking a while to load.
I’m an old stick-in-the-mud. I hate change.
I think there’s not enough contrast between the white of the background and the very very pale grey of the headings and boxes, particularly when you’re commenting. And on the main page I think the no2 and no3 posts are too close together — need more of a margin between them.
Otherwise, I’m sure it’s very pretty.
I give it a 3 out of 10, Will. Asyou mya remember, I’m doing a Master’s on Information Architecture and Design, and having done a heuristic evaluation on your old site ( and got top marks for the assignment, by the way!) I have to tell you that “cool” does not equal “usability” – as the designers of the the London 2010 Olympics Logo discovered!
Your designer has fallen into a similar trap – he needs to take a closer look at W3C guidelines for Web Accessibility.
As Kathy points out, there’s not enough contrast and it’s too cluttered. Simple, it ain’t. Not one iota. It is very difficult for anyone with visual problems. Like me. No, I’m not colour blind or obviously “disabled” (are they not welcome at your site?) but I won’t visit a site like this for leisure.
It’s also now looks like a hundred other sites – pretty generic. Sorry, but a big thumbs down from me.
@ Fiona and Kathy:
If you want to talk about cluttered, go check out the New York Times site (http://nytimes.com). In comparison, I think the design on The Corridor is relatively straight-forward and has a great sense of style while still keeping content clarity (not quantity) first and foremost.
what new site?
Pah! I like it…
I quite like it, although personally if it were mine I’d shift the header to the right so that either the writing or the logo lines up with the main post column. Both for aesthetic reasons and to help lead peoples’ eyes to the right place. And then if the header is too cluttered, shift the search box down into the righthand sidebar.
