It’s definitely the team selection that’s letting the West Indians down. Yes, I blame the selectors. They only play three vry similar specialist bowlers in the team- Collymore, Powell and Taylor are all pretty good bowlers, sure, but they can’t shoulder the entire bowling load. In place of a fourth bowler they’ve put in a third opener to shore up the batting- which might make some kind of sense if Devon Smith had better numbers. They didn’t take a spinner AT ALL, and they didn’t even take Pedro Collins, the Windies’ sole left armer. Fidel Edwards, the sole bowler in the entire squad who might offer some variation, isn’t included in the team. The selection panel ought to be given the sack.
Changing of the West Indian guard

It was the third over of the day on a sprightly Headingley pitch. The clouds hung heavy, there was a stiff breeze hurrying across the ground, and England were facing a bearded West Indian at the end of his run-up. 10 or 15 years ago, those previous two sentences would have been code for an England collapse, several of them nursing serious injuries, but not now.
Denesh Ramdin, the wicketkeeper, received the signal from Corey Collymore to stand up to the stumps. And still they refused to take the new ball. Enough said.
