Do both names have to be French? If not, how about Denis Compton and Denis Lindsay as the No.4 and W/K respectively? I suppose Jacques Rudolph would be at No.5, with maybe Phil Jaques as an opener?
A French XI
By Will 3 years ago, mid-May Add your comment below
Further to the French rules of cricket the other day, a Beige Brigadier has prompted this post (so blame him): a French XI. All names must have French origins, or sound vaguely Frenchish. Such as Richie Benaud, Jacques Kallis, Bernard Bosanquet (who?) and so on.
Far too much fun. Get to it.

And I just came up with two more- AB De Villiers (which sounds French to me) as the other opener, and by the same token Fanie De Villiers as the opening bowler.

Yes, there are many French South Africans. They could have a useful side. I mentioned on the other post Mark Boucher – Mark Butcher’s francophone namesake – and Andre Nel.
A central European XI would be a world force, including Justin Langer of Germany, Kevin Pietersen of Denmark, Michael Kasprowitz of Poland, Simon Katic of Croatia, Michael Di Venuto of Italy, and Andrew Strauss of Austria.

Ben Hilfenhaus, too, and not forgetting that well-known Spanish cricketer, Toka Gaudi of Papua New Guinea, and Eldine Baptiste of the West Indies.

And another South African, Jean-Paul Duminy. You can’t get more French than that.

Here I was hoping the French had finally taken up the noble game. Cricket dominating (in the summer) Radio 4 longwave – which they pick up in the north half of France – apparently narks off the elite who listen to the station otherwise.

so i guess the match would have to be played at La-hore. Oh and Garth Le Roux (i think that’s the spelling) could play.

And Maurice (Mau-rees) Tate makes XI.

I’m sorry, I meant XII. Jean-Paul Duminy would have to be the 12th man, with Richie Benaud as the captain.

Can you really miss out Francois du Plessis of SA’s Titans?

Also, you can pick up TMS in North France?! Maybe my Lille based exile will be more bearable than I thought!

Don’t forget our Italian cricketer Daniel Vettori for the European XI.

I always maintained Scotland made the semi-finals of the World Cup.
