    Translating cricket’s idioms to Russian and beyond

    I have an idea for you venerable clock-watchers. Following on from the French rules of cricket, which has emigrated to Germany and elsewhere, I thought it’d be interesting to harness the globalness of t’internet to list cricket’s idioms in other languages. Like Russian. I want to know what silly mid-off is; extra cover - and anyone who suggests silly mid-offski or extra coverski will be fined.

    Russian, Spanish, Greek, Tasmanian - the world is your linguistic oyster. So come on, get on with it (and ignore the fine. Fictitious languages and words is where it’s at, apparently). England’s international summer is just around the corner, and I need to placate and wow our international audience at Cricinfo with some dazzling interpretations for ball-by-ball…
