Live chat: New Zealand v Sri Lanka, 1st Semi-Final, Jamaica

By Emma 3 years ago, at the end of April Add your comment below

So, after weeks of play, we’ve finally made it to the first semi-final back where Pakistan exited the competition in such spectacular fashion. We can only hope, after such a long wait, that both this match and that at the Beausejour Stadium tomorrow, offer good, tight contests.

But whatever happens, you can watch the scorecard and commentary at Cricinfo, and chat about it here.

    And the surprise so far…

is that it’s Franklin being miserly & with the breakthrough rather than Bond:

    Bond 2-0-12-0
    Franklin 2-0-7-1

I’m hoping for Australia to thrash South Africa so hard they’ll need some of that therapy we’re all talking about.

As for today, an emphatic New Zealand win with a dozen balls to spare. Dan the Man strikes to give New Zealand the upper hand.

    Comon Kiwi’s! I can’t believe I just said that…

I’m expecting a Aus – SL final, though I’m hoping for an SA – NZ one.

    Go, Kiwis!!

HAHAHAHAHA. Can anyone confirm that Viv Richards accused his fellow TMS commentators of “checking out his package”???

This is awful, I love both these teams and can’t decide who I most want to win. Jayawardene has played superbly, but some sloppy fielding by the Kiwis. Typical, just as I find live feed on the Internet, they lose the connection. I think I’m a jinx :(

oh you beaut, I have live TV over the Internet!

there are lots of good feeds on sopcast that have been working for me.

What I want to know is why on earth it isn’t on Channel Nine in Australia? They show the most meaningless matches between Australia and the minnows, and yet they won’t show the damn semi final ?

Go NZ! I have to say they’re my sentimental favourites as an Australian at the moment.

oh dear. and there I go placing a hex on NZ by supporting them as an Australian. Not looking good at 114/5 with McCullum gone for a duck…

    Edit: And now Fulton gone!

Hi Loofer! and Vettori LBW! Should not have worn my NZ T-shirt last weekend :(

VaanamTV is now working for me. Never got through with Sopcast.

Was that slaughter last week too much for New Zealand? Did they really shake it off? I suppose Sri Lanka has.

McMillan gone now too! Jayasuria is having the game of his life.

I think the fat lady is reaching for her throat gargle at this moment in time. Oh dear.

This has been the killer link for me this World Cup.

    http://www.myp2p.eu/Other.htm

Always has a feed of some kind that works, either on that page, or in the associated forum threads.

Some nice hitting at the end there by Patel, another 40 runs and there could have been some hope springing up in the NZ camp.

It’s a shame. Fleming has been such an incredible captain with limited resources that it seems unfair that he’ll almost certainly retire without getting a World Cup under his belt.

Gosh. Looking at the scorecard, it really was quite a horrific collapse by the NZ batsmen. Cricinfo had it right when they said this match would be settled in the middle overs…

New Zealand has a great team. They play up and down cricket, but I don’t know why people keep saying they have limited resources. I think Fleming is likable and people find an excuse for his losses or failures.

Rutherford had limited resources. So did Crowe. But Fleming has had some great players under him: Chris Cairns, Shane Bond, Scott Styris, Nathan Astle, Jacob oram, Daniel Vettori. Himself. God, each of those are match winners themselves.

I’m sure I missed someone really obvious too.

Brendon McCullum? I guess you missed him.
BTW, Will the Lankans make it 3rd time lucky for the sub-continent? (assuming Aus goes thru)

  • Michael wrote:

Nah, only averages 23 with the bat and keeps soundly. Tried to open the ODI innings and failed. Back down the order he went.

Look at Martin Crowe suddenly come out! Don’t you love all the ex-players who show up after the fact? I swear we the public, who criticize and rave on a day-to-day basis, are the ones who ought to be heard.

    Hi Wraye

    Dropped into http://www.cricket.de.

Good initiative, and I’ll give you some linkage when Google recognises I exist .

In the meantime, could I ask you for translations of:

    - Stadtveordnetenversammlung (Werder cricketr club)
    - Schwerinerinnen

Boy, do I understand why Germans have such punctilious articulation.

Bit ad-dy, though (that blasted popup on every page).

    Matt

Thanks, Matt! Very ad-dy, I’m afraid, but it is revenoooo from our sponsors and we need every penny. We have been told to write in German but there’s some stuff in English there too.

Stadt (City) verordneten (administrator) versammlung (meeting). The Northeast Cricket Assoc has finally been officially recognised, they are bringing in 33 new clubs from the eastern bloc, and the mayor of Werder is supporting us. Our first cricket stadium will be built in Werder.

Schwerin – a town in the north, Schweriner – a person from Schwerin, Schwerinerinnen – girls from Schwerin.

    Easy, yes? :(

Michael, Martin Crowe is a pain in the bum. I much prefer his cousin Russell.

    Mike/Michael,
Seeing both of you in the Top Ten List reminds me of Australia playing Australia A in one of the tri series down under. You are an awesome OZ, mate:-)

This is starting to confuse the hell out of me. Mike introduces himself to the blog and mentions that he lives in America. Then I remember Michael saying in the past that he lived in America. So I figure that they’re one and the same, and Michael will become Mike from now on. Then Michael and Mike start commenting in the same blog, and now they’re both on the Top Ten list. Now I figure that they are, in fact, two different people. And now Michael answered-FOR Mike. So please, once and for all, just how many people named Michael (including any and all shortened versions of the name) comment on this blog, one or two?

Either way, don’t forget Chris Harris.

Hmmm. Houston you have a problem.

I think you will be losing visitors with ads that prominent (especially as it keeps re-opening after I close it. Grrr). Sponsor education indicated. I’ll shut up now and post anything more on my blog.

On the language thing – why not write in German and put a Google translation widget on the page.

That will do a decent job with everything except things like Schwerinerinnen and Rindfleischetikettierungsüberwachungsaufgabenübertragungsgesetz.

    Rgds

    Matt

Ok – I’ll put them out of their misery:
“Cattle marking and beef labelling supervision duties delegation law” – it is the German version of “antidisestablishmentarianism”.

I answered the confusion in the AUS v SAF thread, but am re-posting here to keep it in the context of the thread.

Mike and Michael are the same, it’s the pre-writer me and the post-writer me, depending on which computer I am on and how lazy I am (logging on or not).

I’m on the road damnit, I am sitting in Phoenix International Airport on a rush emergency trip for the company, plugged in now and catching a few moments on my internet tv feed.

What Stu said about Smith sums up South Africa in general really, even Arthur wrote about it – they’re trying to be Australia. They can’t and they won’t.

    I’m thrilled it’s 88-6.
