Sri Lanka vs Australia, Super Eights, Grenada

By Scott 3 years ago, mid-April Add your comment below

Sri Lanka have a great chance to knock off the Australians because the Grenada pitch suits their game down to the ground. If they do that, the three semi-finallists so far will all have 10 points, and it will all come down to the England vs South Africa game. I don’t think anyone wants to face Australia in the semi-finals somehow.

Malinga is out for Sri Lanka and Watson is still missing for Australia.

    I’m back from my trip.
No Vaas and no Murali? You have to ask why?!

What was your trip like Michael?
And yes, looks like Chaminda and Murali are rested. Tactics I would reckon… If the two sides meet again in the (semi-)final the Sri Lankans are better off not getting the Australian batsmen used to their best bowlers right now.

Symonds and Ponting played Murali quite well recently… ;) The trip sucked thanks mate! :D

Didn’t you go to see any matches? I thought so… Or is there going to be a seperate post about it?

Did anyone else think that Jayasuria got a 6 off Tait, not a 4? It looked to me like that ball landed flush over the rope.

Sri Lanka are aiming to not meet Australia in the semis – and the Australian batsmen read Murali beeter than any other team – words from the horse’s mouth himself.

I agree marcus, and was surprised the commentators didn’t look into that further. I am positive it was a six.

I didn’t get down to the West Indies after all. I couldn’t make things happen in such a sudden short time. My trip was visiting great grandmother with the wife and kids. It was a struggle but it’s always good to get the kids in to see relatives.

    Thanks for asking though Tobi.

Sri Lanka must be getting sick of seeing Ponting and Symonds bat together. They’ve both been in stellar form today. Well… Ponting is a given.

Well, how boring was that? I hope the fans who made the effort to go the the Cup think they’re getting their money’s worth.

Very weird selections by Sri Lanka. Makes you wonder whether they were deliberately throwing it. Not deliberately deliberately, but, you know, not worrying too much.

Well, Caro, I’d rate the Sri Lanka/England game as one of the most exciting of the tournament. And I’d agree the Aussie games are pretty predictable. ;-)

It’s not Ausralia’s fault that the game wasboring or predictable. Gilly, Hayden, Pontings & Symonds all did their best to make it exciting. I think Sri Lanka are to blame for this non event. Resting your two best bowlers when you can go out and give Australia a run for their money, and if they managed a win, surely that would be a plus for them mentally.

Common Chris. talk sense. When Australia rested few of their key players and played in Kiwiland, no body talked about this. It is purely a team decission and their strategy to give other players a chance.

Because at that time they were already qualified for the Semis. I feel they did the correct thing at that moment by resting few key players and giving young ones a chance. Please go to below link and see the real story.

Dont blame sri lanka for a boring game. Blame India, Pakistan, England and West indies for the way they played. Remember Sri lanka was involved with two of nail biting games of the tournament. They plays very much lively cricket as Australia and New Zealand.

    All the best Sri lanka.
