A bit about Michael
By Mike 3 years ago, mid-April Add your comment below
G’day,
I’m very glad to bring to the table my perspective and thoughts on world cricket. In short, I am an Australian living abroad in the USA, approaching 30, attached to a Yankee wife who knows more about cricket than an American should be allowed and have two ‘half-n-half’ children who at times confuse baseball and cricket but wield the willow nonetheless.
I’m a passionate, energetic, one-foot-forward instead of back kind of bloke. Until recently I played cricket for a team which was a 5 hour drive away. If I cannot convince you of my cricket madness through that stat alone nothing will.
Cheers and thanks for having me.

G’day and welcome, Michael. I too am an Aussie in the US. Washington DC area. Where are you located? And where did you find a cricket club?

Welcome aboard, Mike! Hope you have loads of fun here. I’m a bit of a pain in the neck on this site but I try to behave. I am a single Pom Mum in Germany and unbelievable though it may seem, we have plenty of cricket here too.

Well, you were starting to take over, Mike, so it only makes sense for you to take the mike, as it were.

Welcome aboard, Michael. Does it pay well? (Hopefully well enough to be able to fly to your games.)
Wraye, you’re British? Does that mean we can Mention The War now?

Also a welcome aboard from me. Did they give you the job because they wanted to get you from the “Top Commenters” list
? Anyway, have fun and enjoy yourself.
Marcus, also other germans around here (believe it or not). But all equiped with a good sense of humor. So go ahead and feel free to mention who or whatever you like (as long as the context requires it).

Thanks guys! Hah, it doesn’t pay of the monetary kind, just the rewarding kind.
Fred – I was located in south west Colorado when I played cricket. The league is in Denver. I recently moved back to California as a temporary stop before heading back home to Australia. I know there are good leagues up that way. Do you need help finding a club?
Wraye – You lie!
Pain in the neck my a…neck.
Tobi – Hah, looks like I could retire and not be chased down for some time. Think I want my triple hundred though, you know?

The power feels good, doesn’t it, Michael? Don’t let it consume you.
Seriously, I look forward to reading more of your thoughts.
5 hours away is quite standard for North America. People drive three hours for cheaper petrol.
Wraye, can you play for the German national team?

Marcus, as Tobi said, the Germans have discovered a sense of humour, so beware. You may mention the war, but you might have to do the silly walk with it
Mike, you’re too kind. If you happen to meet an nice Indian chap called Srivatson doing postgrad Biochemistry in CA, say hi from me and Bonn. We miss his bowling!

Actually I am wondering whether commentating / posting as “Mike” will bring up your triple hundred on the scoreboard left hand side. It looks like the runs do not count… or else. I suppose running out of partners is not a problem around here.

California is chock-a-block full of people. I remember first arriving and boggling at the amount of people on the highways. Where were each of these people going at that exact moment?
When I see him I’ll say G’day
286 it is then. 286 is a great number. No test player has ever scored 286, I’ll be content sitting between great names such as:
287 KC Sangakkara
285* PBH May

I’m an Australian moving to the Bay Area in the next few months… and I’m going to be hunting down a cricket league of some kind when I get there… luckily it looks like the waves of IT related Asian residents in Silicon Valley are trying to educate the American heathens about the joy of cricket…

Be sure to check out: http://www.ncalcricket.org
NCal cricket has a lot of respect in the Western circles. Theres roughly a thousand players in 4 divisions and they play on some pretty decent grounds.
The North West Region U-19 won the national Championship last year so there’s some talent coming through in the youth.
Why are you moving to the Bay area? You get yourself a girl mate?
April 11th, 2007 at 11.32 pm
Heh. My wife might have something to say about that
I’ve actually got a job with Google, so I’ll probably be moving over to somewhere around San Jose.
I’m strictly amateur. I played an awful lot as a teenager up until I left school and was a reasonably handy medium-pace all-rounder, and played a few very amateur games at university, but haven’t played competitively for about 10 years or so.
I’ll more be looking for some people to have a social hit around with than anything highly competitive I think

Come on Mike, didn’t you at least ask? And just out of curiosity, if anyone ever manages to score 286, will you try for the triple-century then?
Wraye and Tobi, I’ll take all of that under advisement. The only problem is if I start goose-stepping in front of the screen, people might think I’m peculiar. (I don’t really have the legs for it, anyway.)
