Ireland players are enjoying their cricket that is for sure.
Ireland vs New Zealand

Late again. Well, you get what you pay for around here. In the 18th over, New Zealand are 87 for 3 and while not in trouble exactly are not finding the Irish minnows so easy to deal with. Comment away- I’m off to bed soon so if there’s an upset I want to hear about it here first!

Looks like a good match. The NZ-ers have batted like England.
Why – as a listener in the UK – when I listen to BBC Radio 5 Live Extra am I told by one part of the BBC that they do not have online rights, while elsewhere they are broadcasting the commentary. See the blog for the clips.

the Oirish bowled pretty decently in the first innings, but with Bond, Shane Bond, around, life is always a bit difficult. That man is terrifying!
Wish England had a Shane Bond.

Good call, Matt. I also searched for the live commentary using 5 live special only to be told to naff off, they don’t have the rights to the game in progress. Then, a search for test match special later, I’m listening to 5 Live’s Arlo White and the game in progress. Very strange.

Probably the bowler I worry about most when Australia plays is Shane Bond. He is a class act. Muralitharan averages 30 in both forms of the game against Australia. Not very good… Bond however averages 13 with the ball. (I won’t count Tests, he’s hardly played any!)
The O’Brien’s are really batting well here. Some innovation has provided a couple sweetly struck reverse-sweep boundaries. And Kevin’s two sixes were awesome.
Niall is batting too slow though.

Doesn’t work for me though. I have to do the Tai Chi radio routine and make a nest of cushions when I get a decent reception. We played a friendly today in the park. It was absolutely brilliant, but now that the minnows are no longer playing like minnows, I think our local team has to put in a bit more practise until we are ready for the World Cup!

I am writing from the caribbean and it is 4:36 pm here. with Ireland needing 131 runs in 98 balls, impossible? I don’t think so. A lot of sixes and fours have been sharing away in the world cup so now is a time to hit them again.

I like you Wraye. But sometimes I have no clue what you are talking about.

Sigh, neither do I, Michael ![]()
Anyway, I have no Internet commentary or Sky, so Radio Tai Chi is a pathetic series of movements waving an antenna around to find decent TMS reception from the UK. French opera music usually breaks in around 9pm which is very annoying. Inspired by Ireland and the April sunshine, we had a game of cricket in the park yesterday, but I don’t think the World Cup is ready for us yet.

Michael…I think Wraye means that she has a portable radio and to tune it in has to slowly rotate it in three dimensions until the aerial locates the best reception….it is then carefully placed on the cushions, maintaining the same attitude and insulating it from vibrations.
AS for…..”we played a friendly today in the park etc:”…..I think that this interprets as Our local cricket team played a friendly match today, against what they considered an inferior side, and got their backsides kicked !
Don’t take it too badly Michael….I have been married 3 times and have a natural gift for “Woman speak.”
And yes I also like Wraye
Pity the Irish got thrashed….and as for the Brit’s,
it is time that they went home and fired the manager and Vaughan.
Roll on the next episode.

Well,I was almost right!

Aaah, thanks Graham! I like you guys too. And spot on with the translation except for one thing … the superior players thrashed us!

I thought Wraye was a he?
You made me laugh though. Because some might suggest that 3 times means you have been having trouble figuring out Woman speak

Sorry, Michael, guilty as charged, I’m a girly and I do play in an Associate country. Damn stupid name though, isn’t it?
Sorry to admit, but I laughed too, so sorry, Graham.
Mind you, I bet Lara is not laughing now. Big ask of the WIndies here. Why no thread? Have Scott & Will given up already?

I do like it when the ladies love their cricket.
I emailed Will to ask him about the WI v SAF thread.

Learned it at father’s knee decades ago, Michael.
Lara could not produce and Sarwan is holding out well, but the RR is not enough. I have a household full of kids, so have not been following too closely tonight. How is the wicket reacting? It was untried with a bit of grass. Thought the WIndies bowlers might get through. Obviously not tonight.
