India vs Bermuda, West Indies vs Zimbabwe

By Scott last year, mid-March Leave a comment on this post

India are batting, and have already lost a wicket to what will be one of the great images of the 2007 World Cup, as Bermuda’s heavyweight Dwayne Leverock took a slips catch worthy of Mark Waugh. The earth shook as the big fella hit the turf!

Zimbabwe can still make the Super 8’s, but beating West Indies will be hard.

Ok … to lighten the mood.

This is a snippet I grabbed from the commentary on Saturday - showing that lyrical commentary ahs not totally vanished.

    See the link above.

No one’s about.. well India got 413 for 5 off their 50 overs and a jolly good time they had too.

Zimbabwe are 146 for 5 after 42 overs and not enjoying themselves quite so much.

Hi lads and ladesses, where’s the link then, Matt?

Isn’t India’s score up there in the WC records? Zimbabwe looked like they were going to collapse at first, but then made a respectable come-back. However, Chris Gayle is looking mean - 3 sixes in a row! Wow!

Leverock has really given his all for his country, and what a splendid figure of a man! My radio is covering the WIndies game, but reception is breaking up again, thanks to France and their opera. Grrrr. Hemp also deserves respect in this game. Hold your head high, guys!

Bermuda’s attitude, and indeed all minnow’s attitude to their cricket is refreshing, an honesty lacking from the major nations. Cliches, mud-slinging and limp apologies are common throughout the world of cricket, complete with some sort of sub-continent saga every second week.

Probably has something to do with the professionalism of the game, which of course keeps cricket alive and successful, but can make insights into the game a little bland when all you recieve is the straight bat: “We can win if we bowl well and restrict them”. At least with the smaller nations, they are bound by the contrainsts of ego and strict team rules.

I was just watching the replay last night and I thought the Zimbabwean uniforms were beautiful, absolutely superb. All the other teams should have their uniforms based on Zimbabwe’s.
