  • I think those speed guns are a load of crap. Somehow the white ball goes faster - I bowled 83-84mph in the Test match, and 93mph in the one-dayers. It's crazy. I hadn't bowled a ball for ten days.

Who do you want to lose the World Cup?

By Will last year, at the start of March Leave a comment on this post

Pre-tournament polls are usually completely pointless. So instead of asking who you think will win, let’s reverse it. Who do you want to reach the final of the World Cup, only to lose it? It could be your most hated team, or you simply like watching losers’ despondent, disconsolate faces. Vote now: your country doesn’t depend on it.

Ty - it was actually a tough call in the end! However, as much as I’d like to see Graeme Smith cry like a baby on worldwide TV, my heart ruled this particular vote.

    Australia all the way :)

    South Africa.

Can’t stand Smith’s ‘blame everybody but myself’ attitude when the team is losing (ala Australian tour last year).

I’d be interested just to see the fallout when or if they do go. Having said that, I think they’ll probably end up winning it. :p

Voted England by mistake - will love to SA keep their chokers tag intact, and of course, the look on Smith’s face will be priceless. Nice revenge too for the drubbing they gave us not that long ago.

    Ty… Australians.

In all seriousness, who do I feel has the best chance to make the final?

Australia | South Africa | India

Who do I feel has an outside chance because they can play like men possessed one day or like schoolboys the next?

Pakistan | New Zealand | West Indies

And then you have those two who leave you scratching your head.

    Sri Lanka | England

The rest don’t stand a chance.

So who should make the final and lose? Muhaha. Not England, I don’t want them coming home after a “successful” World Cup campaign. I enjoyed watching India pretend to be as good as Australia in WC2003 and wouldn’t mind the same feeling. South Africa loves to talk the big talk and then get smashed. I used to LOVE South Africa; Jonty Rhodes, Alan Donald, Fannie DeVilliers, Gary Kirstin, Jacques Kallis. Graeme Smith, Mark Boucher and Andre Nel have ruined their image.

I’m going with South Africa losing.

Ty, Mike and the majority who voted for Australia to lose the final obviously are convinced they are still that good - glad to see your confidence in us -:) And we’re not chokers

I would say England, but I want them to be knocked out of the first stage by Kenya. Otherwise, Pakistan, so they can then kick up some controversy!

    Jeez, a rigged vote.
Who put Australia right up the top? :-)

I think this question is related to your other question about the second favourite team. So going along those lines, India is my favourite team and the second favourite team is the West Indies.

So in reality I want the West Indies to do well enough to reach the finals and then India to win the final more than “It could be your most hated team, or you simply like watching losers’ despondent, disconsolate faces”.

i’m not surprised it’s australia with over 90%. they are the team everyone loves to hate. maybe if they were a bit NICER to the rest of the cricketing world, they wouldn’t be so hated. it’s not the fact that they are so good that makes them so unpopular. it’s the way they handle themselves both on and off the field. i, like most (or all) non-aussies, cheer for my home team AND whoever plays against them.
