CB Series: 9th Match, England v New Zealand

By Emma last year, at the end of January Leave a comment on this post

Will seems to be getting the best of it. At least, given the choice of vaguely competitive matches in Kenya and, well, this… well I know where I’d be.

I’ve been listening to this on and off since the start. Thankfully, most of England’s fielding was ‘off’. As Arlo White has just said on TMS - ‘it must be boring, waiting for the inevitable’. I’d say more about our performance - but I’m a little too disgusted.

    NZ: 318-7
    ENG: 260-8

Yet another defeat. Poor bowling (Tremlett went for 20 runs in four balls and ended with 1-72 off 10 overs) gave NZ the chance to build an impressive total.

    Still some interesting points:
    - Joyce scored his maiden half-century (66)
    - all England batsmen reached double figures
    - Nixon (49) took a major step in cementing his World Cup place

I have just about had enough of England…

I think the most positive thing to come out of this performance was that England didn’t roll over and wither as they have in the previous three or four games.

Listening on the radio, I switched off with 7 overs left and needing 50 odd to avoid conceding the bonus point. However as I’ve discovered this morning, the lower order showed some heart and fight to pull themselves over that ‘milestone’.

While the game was another microcosm of England’s woeful performances in the summer, at least, to some extent, they are on the ‘rebound’.

Plus Monty was amazing…easily the most I’ve seen him spin it.

Oh please let Paul “I’ve been keeping beautifully” Nixon have cemented his place in the world cup squad. It would provide some great comedy along with the great competitive cricket as England take on Kenya and Canada. That innings in Perth was the greatest joke I have ever seen. This bloke is the epitome of the problems England face. Good luck England if he is anywhere near the world cup squad.
