Yikes! I love Bob Woolemer, and I think he has a lot more work left to do with us, so regardless of how we do in the World Cup, I’d like him to stay on with Pakistan, for at least another couple of years. Inzi would probably retire at the end of the World Cup, meaning he’d have a chance to work with under a very different sort of leader in Younis Khan and I think that will be something we could really benefit from. He’s not going any where Will any time soon if my prayers are being answered. Australia and England, go find your self coaches elsewhere!

Egad, an Englishman coaching England? I’ve a better idea
By Scott last year, at the end of January Leave a comment on this post
Bob Woolmer has admitted an interest in the England job, and Allan Donald has come out in support of his application. Donald is well qualified to talk about Woolmer given their long association both for Warwickshire and South Africa. And Woolmer’s track record for South Africa and Pakistan speak for themselves. Pakistan is a reasonable chance of challenging for the 2007 World Cup, and have just leveled the current series in South Africa.
But here’s a thought out of left field. Maybe Australia should try to poach him first. There’s absolutely no reason why an Englishman can’t have a leading role in Australian cricket. And there’s no doubt that from a professional point of view, coaching the best side in the world would be a new experience.
I’m not saying that Australia should definately go down that path. But I think it is an idea that merits some consideration, as well.

Interesting option, Scott. I hadn’t (and I bet Cricket Australia hasn’t) even considered a non-Australian for the post. As far as I know, the press hasn’t considered a non-Australian either.
But if someone like Woolmer has the runs on the board (hee hee) then why not? Or maybe after Fletcher gets the sack (the tour hasn’t finished yet) he could be considered. He and Ponting get along quite famously after all…

i’m pakistani myself.. but i can’t imagine anybody dealing with characters like akhtar..

*laughs* Interesting one. Instead of the Rest-Of-The-World catching up, let’s hire some English to run our show and hinder our abilities to make cricket an even contest.
Brilliant.
