Illegal World Cup merchandise

By Will last year, mid-January Leave a comment on this post

No, I’m not selling any - merely pointing you to Ryan’s blog who warns how impossible it will be for the Caribbean to police the sale of un-kosher World Cup goods.

The ICC and their media rotweillers will be out in force. They have already forced the local governments to pass legislation banning long-established vendors from operating in the vicinity of grounds so that their corporate rip-off merchants can flog their overpriced shit. Goat curry or MuckDonalds, just like the serve in good old New York? So much for the flavor of the Caribbean.

There will be the same branding police in evidence as there was in 2003. No wrong soft drinks, no wrong telephones, no wrong crisps. It’s big brother gone mad. And what does the ICC do with all this $$$. It pays Malcolm Speed more than half a million dollars a year, flies its executives everywhere business class and pays corrupt boards like Zimbabwe millions of dollars.

Ask anyone who was at the SCG. The only beer on sale was watered down. One type of food – pies. Great for anyone who doesn’t want to end up looking like Darren Lehmann. No standing up. No beach balls. And you better not enjoy yourself … but please drink another can of the authorized cola.

Too right angry - its not like if you buy fake football merchandise outside Anfield and you do the club out of the cash…I guess official means the ICC, and who really cares about them? (They do alot of good work actually - but they do enough bad work as well for me not to care if I buy some fake stuff over there in march)

Sorry to be off topic, but oh cooommmooon Will, no seperate thread for the first one-day of the triangular series down under? You can’t deny us the opportunity to make fun of England? Surely not, you’ve got to be a good sport.
