Well done William! I salute your earlybirdness. Were there any other professionals playing? And what shoes did they have? I read they were going to wear spikes… but did they not fall over, all the same? I’m surprised Surrey let Mark Butcher play; sounds a bit dangerous to me?
Cricket on an ice rink in London

There was a charity match to raise funds for the Ben Hollioake Fund this morning, on an ice rink outside the Natural History Museum. It was as bizarre as it sounds. All the photos I took were useless apart from this which at least has some colour on what was a very grey, wintery morning:

There are a few others at Cricinfo.
Here’s one taken with my mobile

Thanks Jennifer Thompson. I didn’t see Butcher there, unless he was hiding. No spikes…I think some were using studded bowlers’ boots but lots of them fell over and made complete arses of themselves. Lots of quizzical looks from commuters, treading the same weary, grey path to their offices. “Look. Cricket on ice. You don’t see that every day. Oh well, I’ve got paperwork to do”.

The Estonians are well used to cricket on ice, and they have physically adapted to suit. Most of their team are short, giving them better balance. They have beards, protecting their faces from the cold, and they wear whites to hide in the field. It is the evolution of cricket.
