pcb is a joke… just like all other “institutions” in pakistan…. akhtar’s history suggests that he might have knowingly taken banned substances… not sure about asif.. maybe akhtar got him on the stuff he was taking… the pcb should have informed the players about “supplements”… just handing out flyers isn’t going to get the job done.. these guys are off the streets with little to no education at all.. they need to be fully informed in urdu…
forget about the wada regulations.. the pak team players don’t even know the laws of cricket.. nobody bothered to sit them down.. and give them the laws of cricket in urdu.. and TEST them on it..
for a western player all this doesn’t have to be done because they have atleast a high school diploma.. saw some pak cricketers on a game show and they could only answer cricket trivia questions.. they had no clue about simple general knowledge stuff..
the fact that the pcb had no clear regulations means that they get to exonerate these guys due to technicalities..
i’m afraid that akhtar is a character that will not learn his lesson.. will not be surprised at all if he tests positive again during the next world cup… hopefully atleast asif will learn his lesson…
you just can’t have a guy like akhtar in the team no matter how good he is..

There’s more cricket then the Ashes going on. Just to keep everyone up to date….
Sri Lanka play New Zealand in a two-Test series starting this morning NZ time. A thoughtful bit of scheduling, that, to not clash with the Second Test. The good news from a neutral point of view is that Shane Bond is actually still fit despite playing in the Champions Trophy, so his performance will be worth looking out for. Sadly, I don’t think he’ll ever get recognised for what he could have been- the best bowler in the world, when he’s fit and firing.
Sri Lanka have a real fast bowling find of their own in Lasith Malinga, who seems to have come on in leaps and bounds as well. Given that Chaminda Vaas isn’t getting any younger, it’s time for Malinga to stand up, and given the constant problems New Zealand have in their top order, he can really cash in.

Pakistan can’t stay out of the news, with the drugs ban on Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif being overturned. With all the Ashes excitement, I do not know enough about the case to comment, but it certainly will be a shot in the arm for Pakistan to have them back in the side. They weren’t needed in the first ODI against the West Indies, but there is four more to come.
And it is past time that West Indies fired up and made a statement and went out and won this series. I’ve seen a lot of West Indies in the past few months, and while they keep promising, they still haven’t actually delivered anything. There seems to be a new spirit in West Indies cricket, but they remain fragile; the onus is on them to prove that they can roll with the punches, otherwise they’ll be bit-players at their own party when the World Cup comes along.

Scott, in all the Ashes hoo-ha, I’d completely forgotten we were playing Sri Lanka. Bond’s on fire this morning — he’s such a joy to have in our side, and his vulnerability to injury is a crying shame.

Probably none of you know or care, but we held an inter-regional tournament last month, when the Indoor Cup fell from Dortmund into Rodgau hands. Another youth event is on the books for January and our first European Women’s Event will be held in February. No slouches here in Europe either. Busy bees.

If you want to try streaming it on internet TV. Run the Sopcast program [google it and download the zip] and take channel 12736 “Live cricket”.
Good solid feed coming through right now at very watchable quality.
At lunch, 28 overs bowled, Sri Lanka struggling at 77/3 on a beautiful green “English” wicket. Opener Thuranga and #5 Kapugedera trying to right the ship. Bond has done all the damage in a 7 over opening burst removing Jayasuriya, Sangakkara and D. Jayawardene.

This (NZ vs Sri Lanka in Christchurch) is proper Test cricket — practically nobody there! Great bowling by us Kiwis. Something to feel happy about. The England team should just sit down quietly and watch NZ play.

Yeah pretty empty, isn’t it. Although to be fair, there’s plenty more life in this Christchurch wicket then there was in Adelaide or Brisbane.
December 7th, 2006 at 1.32 am
Absolutely, Scott. Makes a huge difference. You feel like you have a proper contest between bat and ball. What is it with the Aussie pitches — is it the drought?
December 7th, 2006 at 1.39 am
Yeah, drought affected the Brisbane wicket considerably. Adelaide played pretty similar to normal except that it was slower and lower, thus making it hard to score.
SL now 121 for 8. Martin has his 100th wicket in Test… and he’s only ever scored 57 runs. Remarkable stat, that.

Hi,
I was thrilled to watch it on sopcast. After the rain all the channels vanished. Do you know which channel broadcasts now?
