  • I think those speed guns are a load of crap. Somehow the white ball goes faster - I bowled 83-84mph in the Test match, and 93mph in the one-dayers. It's crazy. I hadn't bowled a ball for ten days.

Ashley Giles the Borat of Spain

By Will 2 years ago, at the start of December Leave a comment on this post

Oh it’s cruel, it’s painfully cruel

    Ashley Giles is Borat

Courtesy of The Ashes Blog who provide the following reasons Ashley Giles should continue playing for England:

    1. He makes James Anderson look threatening.

    2. His bowling average is almost as good as Matthew Hayden’s batting average.

    3. As the Personal Life Coach for Ricky Ponting, Ashley Giles felt that the Australian captain was in desperate need of a bit of encouragement, so he sacrificially dropped that catch on the boundary. But that’s just the sort of kind, generous guy that he is.

    4. His Royal Highness brings a certain amount of class and dignity into the England team. Well, they need to make up for Kevin Pietersen’s presence somehow.

So please, keep Ashley playing, and make benefit glorious King of Spain.

i’m not a fan of ashley giles at all but this time i have to defend him.

1)fletcher was the one who picked him to bat at 8 on a flat pitch.

2)everyone who reads this blog knows that giles’ best asset is to hold an end up while the seamers rotate, not to take wickets regularly.

if anyone is to blame it’s the england batsmen who couldn’t play out a draw on a pancake wicket

    I agree

Our top order are picked in the side as “BATSMAN”, but NONE of them have come good so far…

Cook should be ditched for Joyce.

Am I the only one that thinks Giles should play and Mahmood should be in for Anderson!?

The next test will be a now or never sort of game… fletcher can’t POSSIBLY stick with the same “you got us into this mess, you get us out of it” bollocks!

I also call for a change in coach after the Ashes!!

In Australia we are currently debating whether to call today “National Hussey Day” or “National Thank Ashley Giles Day” or even “National Thank God Monty Wasn’t Picked Day”.

Also, Will, do the cricinfo commentators commentate from the Adelaide oval or are you stuck in Blighty?

We have a couple at Adelaide and three in London. Not that our readers would believe us; we’re apparently biased in favour of Australia! (which is a good sign…if anything that means we’re pretty neutral, which is our goal/intent)

Giles is a quality man who has done solid service for England over the years. However his time is up in the national squad IMO. If England really want a defensive spinner who can bat more than decently at #8 then Dalrymple should be given the nod at #6 or #7 — especially in light of Flintoff’s and Jones’ *cough*indifferent*cough* form with the wooden bludgeoner. Otherwise let’s get on with the business of properly blooding England’s best attacking spinner in years: Monty Panesar.

monty has the skills but does he have the experience? i’m not sure if monty will be able to perform under the pressure of the ashes… then again.. how much worse can he be compared to giles..
giles is a very average spinner and a worse batsman…. no point at all of having him in… but that doesn’t automatically mean monty is the best choice..
joyce maybe a better replacement for giles.. atleast he can bat.. and would probably bowl no worse than giles..
mahmood vs anderson… mahmood can come good but he can also go very very horribly wrong.. anderson like giles is the “safe” pick..

*the giles poster is soooo hilarious..
poor giles…. he does try his best.. but his best can never be good enough against a side like australia…
