Live: Australia v England, 2nd Test, Adelaide, 2nd day

By Will 4 years ago, at the start of December Add your comment below

A fighting, gritty performance by England yesterday. It was tough-going at times, even turgid, but just what England needed. Paul Collingwood batted superbly and there’ll be a massive cheer if he makes his hundred later this morning. England need to press on though and aim big…

Morning all. A ton for Colly a good start.

KP is in the zone. His body language is cock-of-the-walk and McGrath is chuntering.

    This is more like it.

Brilliant piece of fielding to keep KP on 99

Collingwood’s stopped moving his feet. Perhaps Clark’s ploy of bowling short is starting to work.

We need to stay for the next 2.5 hrs but what was Warne saying in the Evening Stnadard tonight – he’s a fool

    Has ponting given up?

All looking good so far. Australia seem to have lost their way in day two. Ponting doesn’t seem to have too many ideas. A quick blitz by KP and Freddie in the afternoon and it could be very interesting indeed.

Right, off to put some more coffee on :)

how good is england batting they have left ponting with nothing. i am a fanatic australian supporter but england is batting so brilliantly. my fav crickter is michael clarke and i think he is going alrite. pieterson got his century in excellent style as did collingwood and i think that this test is going to be quite interesting and close, my prediction is a draw

collingwood gets 150, what an awesome batsman even if he’s a pom

After Brisbane’s lows, today just seems bizarre. And if the Aussie bowlers can’t get a wicket, I fear for the England attack.

An Ashes double hundred. Another piece of history. Paul Collingwood, you deserve your MBE.

Second Test in Adelaide, what a disgraceful wicket.
It is susposed to be a test match therefore a test wicket is required.
The wicket is DEAD (R.I.P.),Two record test bowlers can’t get the ball to do anything.
I’ll guarantee my 10 and 12 year old grand daughters could score centuries on that so called test wicket.
Unless test wickets are provided, cricket becomes an event and that’s not cricket.

Morning all, just woken up. Looks like I missed all the fun. Collingwood is Mr December on my MCC calendar and I’m happy with that. Now let’s see what damage Freddie and GiLo can inflict.

Is it just me, or are the conditions changing? – ball swinging; more spin . . . Give Hoggy 45min before stumps . . .

Morning Wraye – just going for my first Chardonnay of the day. Don’t know why I didn’t think of it before.

Morning Caroline, might just join you – with juice added of course! The wicket is doing nothing for the bowlers but still, Ponting should be setting a more aggresive field. Anyway, it nice for a Pom to see my boys get some runs.

    Cheers!

Gilo is playing better than Fred who looks quite out of sorts.

    Greetings Caroline and Wraye.

Hi Kathy! Fred just hit a six and I’m wondering if there will be a declaration this evening. Also wondering how long McGrath will last.

I could weep for joy. I really could. Colly, after watching you get out for 185 against Pakistan this summer, when you really deserved a double century…what a place to get it.

KP, well done, lad. Your double century will come. One day, you WILL get past 158, I promise.

    And Langer out.

Busy day, but I’ll be grinning from ear to ear.

    Later, folks.

This test will more than likely end in a draw. I’m hoping Hayden scores a big century as I have $5 on him to score the most runs in Australia’s first innings.

Game on, or so I hope.

Moaning about the pitch aside, I’m really glad the series has finally turned tide. Australia amazingly didn’t bowl that badly, conceding 551 off 168 at Adelaide is extremely good – normal expect that type of score off 120 overs. The pure class of English batting was on display today, and I suspect they have Ponting to thank. His decision not to enforce the follow-on just gave the English a chance to adjust to conditons, and now they’ve scored 920 runs for 16 wickets in the last two innings.

Ideally Australia will score quickly tomorrow. Then it’s truly game on.

A great day for England. It was great to watch Mcgrath and Warne struggling for a change. Pieterson and Collingwood played very well. I was a bit disappointed though with the tactics of great Aussie bowlers like Warnie bowling foot outside the leg stump
