The ninth of 10 postcards from Postcards from the Sledge

You're only good at swimming

This has added relevance as Ian Thorpe is due to retire, apparently…

Hi guys I am avidly following this series from America via the Internet. Hope the Poms thrash the Aussies. Check out http://www.crickmax.com for this series as they are the cheapest I have found so far.

I see no reason for any Aussie to buy the book – out of ten, all anti-Aussie? An even mix, fine, but you’re too biased. Fair enough, you’re a Pom with a legit bias, but I don’t know if you’re doing the compiler any favours.
And really, poms just can’t sledge.

I think you’re forgetting the intended market. The artist is British and lives in England. He’s on a limited budget. He doesn’t have a big production house supporting him; this is all his own work. And nor can he afford to sell them to Australian shops, yet.

Plus, they’re postcards…so you might find them winging your way to Australia anyway.

And another thing, I don’t quite follow your logic of me being biased. I was helping out Beach, the artist, in promoting his work which even you should admit is outstanding – pro-English or pro-Australian.

Stop moaning and crack open another bottle of Australian whine.

By bias, I merely mean that you have a clear – and valid – bias towards England. I’m not knocking that. I really do believe that the selection of sledges is tame – surely the author can come up with better, it’s pretty bland stuff. Unfortunately, I feel that the artwork is fairly crude – but admittedly, probably well-suited to the format it is being used for.
Finally – “And nor can he afford to sell them to Australian shops, yet.” My point was that I doubt that he would manage to sell them to Australian shops, and that he would have been – perhaps – better served coming up with a more ‘international’ version. After all, it’s not just us and you that sledge.
