South Australia v England, Adelaide

By Will 4 years ago, mid-November Add your comment below

It’s the final warm-up match to Brisbane. England are Trescothickless and could do with a good run-out here to stretch their legs for next week. They ought to get it with Darren Lehmann, Shaun Tait, Dan Cullen and Mark Cosgrove among them. Their resolve will be seriously tested.

Chat away.

The Redbacks suck mate – I’m a Croweater, so I can get away with saying that. On paper, they look the goods, and the bowlers might come through, but the batting is brittle. They have a tendency to completely collapse, then have one of them put his hand up (usually Boof, sometimes Cosgrove) to save a little face for them. They’ve even sacked Graham Manou for this one because he was woefully underperforming. Either way – except for some handy English (well, English, South African and Irish with your squad) batting practice, this match will be a fizzer, and will probably mean bugger all for either country.
There we go – I just thought to check the card before posting this, and we’re 58 for 4! Hoggard has taken 3. Thank God I didn’t take any time off work to amble down and watch this! Good news for Hoggy, but probably not too significant – everyone does that to the Redbacks top order, I’m afraid.

I don’t want to jinx Hoggard here, but he really is the stalwart of the England team — never gets injured, never complains, rock-solid temperament, good sense of humour, tells it like it is (“I bowled like a trollop”), blah blah. And I think he gets better as he gets older.

Enjoyed his video chats on YouTube (rather poignant, catching glimpses of Trescothick at the airport, who I’m sure thought he would be OK), and his house does seem very nice, but he really is dreaming if he thinks that’s a good view. My living room window has a better view than that, and mine is nothing compared to most of New Zealand. Mind you, we are pretty spoilt here — more gorgeousness per square inch than anywhere else.

Kathy, I’m being offered a rather decent job in Auckland at the moment, and am trying to decide whether or not to move the young family over… It’s kind of a choice between Auckland and the San Francisco Bay Area….

At least NZ still plays cricket… :)

Tricky decision, loofer, but I am too biased to advise. Don’t particularly like Auckland (too big, expensive and hot for me) and am an avowed Wellington-ite.

Jesus — so much for the great Strauss-Cook opening partnership. Suddenly the tail looks horribly long. Come back Tres. Or Vaughan. Or Giles. Or…

And I think Fletcher is still keeping everyone guessing on the spinner. Everyone was so sure it was Giles…. who knows what goes on in that Zimbabwean brain.

If Tait gets a 5 for, is it safe to say he’ll be selected for Brisbane?
