As I calm down from the hysteria of being the first to leave a comment I have to say that the ABC has had some great commentary teams. I heard on the grapevine that Botham might be lending a helping hand this summer. It can depend on which city the Test is being played in as to who will be commentating.
Online radio commentary for the Ashes
By Will 4 years ago, at the start of November Add your comment below
Adrian emailed with a good suggestion that we draw up a list of online radio stations who will be covering the Ashes. In his words…
How about a thread detailing where we can listen to cricket on-line. I believe
that ABC in Australia broadcast on the internet occasionally.Naturally, we’ll be following the ball by ball on cricinfo, but it’s always
interesting to listen to other equivalents to TMS, I spent a couple of months
in India and All India radio’s commentary was addictive.
Over to you lot.

As Alan R commented elsewhere, it is not always possible to pick up TMS outside of the UK due to rights issues and I wonder if it works the other way around.
If that is correct the only way round it would be for some clever bastard in Australia to set up a VPN and allow us Poms to tunnel in.
Personally I will be bonding with my father this Christmas as he happens to have got $ky this year.
November 4th, 2006 at 4.03 am
I’m with Sean. Currently, outside the UK we are f**ked and I am considering Direct TV internet service for 99US although I much prefer an internet radio link, it seems so much more appropriate.
November 4th, 2006 at 5.25 am
Your list is going to be pretty short. ABC Local Radio for Australian listeners, Test Match Special for UK listeners, and everyone else will have to pay for online audio.
November 4th, 2006 at 6.21 am
I have researched like mad and Rick’s comment is sad but true. Pay or go without. Can anyone help?
November 4th, 2006 at 1.44 pm
More to the point, how are us Pommies going to be able to stay awake all night?!! *weeps*
November 4th, 2006 at 4.06 pm
Blogs like this and Cricinfo mean that online is going to have a great advantage over written media this winter.
Cricket World will have live free audio throughout the Ashes:
http://www.cricketworld.com/radio/
I’m sure it will also be worth a listen to the links below during each city’s Test, only to see if any Barmy Army fans are causing mayhem on breakfast show’s and live phone-ins.
November 4th, 2006 at 5.24 pm
Obviously Red Bull hasn’t reached Deutschland just yet – get an espresso machine, Wraye
November 4th, 2006 at 5.48 pm
I’ve got one – but people at work might wonder why I’m a violent shade of red and permanently shaking!
November 4th, 2006 at 7.49 pm
I’m going to be in the Caribbean for the first two tests (fly out on the 23rd so should sleep well on the ‘plane!). I have one week on a boat (first test) followed by one week at a resort in Antigua (second test). The barman at the resort is a local club fast bowler who wants us to st*ff the Convicts (he thinks somebody has to). I understand (from him) that the resort stay will be covered by a local cable TV station but does anyone have any idea how I might get updates on the first test when on the boat (am and fm radio available)? Or am I st*ffed?!
If it reaches the fifth test and we will retain the ashes .. I’ll be there, Quantas won’t keep me away!
Farmer.
November 5th, 2006 at 6.03 pm
Laugh! Sean, think you got us mixed up. We do have Red Bull here in Hunland visiting the games in their nifty little vans. First time I ever tasted the stuff was at a League game in Duesseldorf. Gonna get me in a crate of it for the Ashes!
Farmer, sorry if I have to smile over your dilemma. Suffering on a boat in the Caribbean? Oh dear. Think you may be st*ffed. As we quake in the North European frost & snow at midnight with TMS, we’ll be thinking of you
November 6th, 2006 at 7.02 pm
The way I see it Wraye life is all about making choices, you have chosen to be in Northern Europe for the first and second tests and I have chosen to be in a cricket loving country with cricket weather. Or to put it another way I’ve chosen Red Stripe and sunbathing, you’ve chosen Red Bull and frozen n*ts, I’m sure you’ll be happy!

You got me there, Dave, though the decision was made more by my bank manager than me
Jeez, sometimes life is a beach, sometimes a bitch.
November 13th, 2006 at 10.15 pm
The utterly desperate (like me) may want to consider investing in one of these:
November 14th, 2006 at 10.42 am
Hi – my brother lives in Toronto and is cricket mad…he wondered how he could watch/listen to the ashes? Who owns the ex:UK online rights? Or, is there a cable channel which might show the live coverage? Any help appreciated.
November 20th, 2006 at 9.19 am
As stated on this thread earlier what we need is someone in the UK who sets up a server and we VPN onto it and “listen” via them. Who has a computer literate relation back in the UK?
November 20th, 2006 at 2.30 pm
Apparently you can listen on the ABC australian broadcasting company radio. Hope so anyway.
November 22nd, 2006 at 3.00 am
Skype. I get my brother in UK to:
1. Set his recording control to “stereo mix”
2. Start listening to the BBC on Realplayer,
I then call him up on Skype and it comes through with almost no delay!
November 22nd, 2006 at 4.51 pm
You can try setting your browser/media player to operate through an anonymous proxy server (Google ‘public proxy servers’). Ths has worked for me intermittently in the past although I think the BBC have got wise to it. It used to be that they couldn’t tell you were outside the UK so the broadcast would come though, but now I suspect they have a list of approved servers/providers and unless the proxy server is on that list (unlikely) it’s rejected. However, ABC might not have got wise to this yet so could be worth a try. Must say, I’ve seen nothing obvious on ABC’s pages saying there will be any live commentary from them.
November 22nd, 2006 at 11.13 pm
All this info is speculative. I think there will be a commentary on this Australian Bookies’ site.
stanjames.teamtalk.com/StanJames/Ashes
Plus, ABC do broadcast ball-by-ball on line but only to certain countries.
http://www.abc.net.au/cricket/
Sorry if this is all turns out to be wrong.

November 22nd, 2006 at 11.54 pm
had to get that in quick cos it was starting.
By the way, the ABC commentary team is absolute gold. Nobody can go past Kerry O’Keefe for straight out Aussie blokeyness.
He’s a national treasure.
This is the first time I have ever left anything on one of these things so if you find this info useful, can you let me know. I’d be stoked.
November 23rd, 2006 at 12.13 am
I can’t get abc.net.au commentary here in Canada. They give a list of countries that do not allow commentary and Canada and the US are on the list.
Anyone have any other thoughts? I’m desparate to catch the Ashes action.
November 23rd, 2006 at 12.17 am
You think youre stuffed? Im in Argentina. Help!
November 23rd, 2006 at 12.19 am
any ideas where I can get live visual streaming of the 1st test – no issues paying for it?!
November 23rd, 2006 at 12.21 am
Commentary available NOW on
http://www.cricketworld.com/radio/
but its pants!
November 23rd, 2006 at 12.24 am
thats what I’m listening to, its garbage!! I miss TMS! Surely there must be a pay per view web streaming of the skysports coverage?!
November 23rd, 2006 at 12.31 am
agree totally about a the cricketworld.com commentary, it’s terrible, wish i could get TMS. listening to the stan james commentary, not the best, but better than the cricketworld…..http://stanjames.teamtalk.com/StanJames/Ashes_Popup…..aint started too great for us. when will harmie get his act together and perform outside of england
November 23rd, 2006 at 12.32 am
Go here it’ll cost you 30 USD per Test but it is the Sky Sports coverage and better than the free commentary mentioned above.
November 23rd, 2006 at 12.33 am
Nice of ABC to stream their commentary to the likes of Afghanistan, Mongolia, the Yemen, etc – unfortunately, it seems to be one of those that cricketworld.com are relaying their commentary from!
November 23rd, 2006 at 12.41 am
I agree, listening in the US, Stan James is much better than cricketworld.com. The latter was like listening to the World Cup on the Sun’s delayed, “off TV” comentary.
November 23rd, 2006 at 12.48 am
Are the cricketworld boys commentating via not very powerful binoculars?
November 23rd, 2006 at 12.54 am
Guys,
first time here. Found commentary on this url in NZ. Has adverts but otherwise seems reasonable.
thanks,
Bill
November 23rd, 2006 at 1.00 am
Even worse for me – I live in Japan, one of the countries where the ABC stream is permitted yet it is refusing to play
November 23rd, 2006 at 1.07 am
Guys I’m from Holland. I’ve got ecb tv but that doesn’t do any live coverage of the ashes so that s*cks. I’m now listening to the link Bill gave, thnx for that Bill, much better than the binocular boys (like Bermuda said lol).
Last year i saw some live cricket via some streaming site (i’ll look up which one that was) but a few months after that it changed for the worse and i didn’t return there anymore, and u gotta pay there now i believe.
i’ll keep looking and i hope someone finds something really good greets Stef
November 23rd, 2006 at 1.13 am
cheers bill, nice call! adverts indeed, but good commentary – a little bit of zip about it!
November 23rd, 2006 at 1.26 am
http://www.cricbuzz.com carry live, unofficial commentary. It is a couple of Indian guys sitting in front of a TV so no atmosphere, no passion but it is live and it is free!
November 23rd, 2006 at 1.32 am
I can confirm that here in the USA the 1st Test at the Gabba can be heard by going over to: http://www.radiosport.co.nz/ as Bill said earlier. They do break in more often than I’d like (with commercials & items on local New Zealand sports teams), but as I’ve been let down by the BBC & ABC too, I can certainly overlook this. Plus it’s free as well !!!!
November 23rd, 2006 at 1.33 am
griff/steff, try acessing abc via this penguin site. i live in ireland and couldn’t access it directly…
http://www.penguinradio.com/search/keyword.php?search=cricket
November 23rd, 2006 at 1.34 am
a thought from the south of brasil…anyone else out there thinking that these two indian guys are going to become very familiar over the next few weeks?
November 23rd, 2006 at 1.41 am
I’m using http://www.willow.tv for a feed from Channel 9 in Aussie. It’s $99US for the series but I think it’s only available in the US and Canada.
It’s worth it so far!
November 23rd, 2006 at 1.41 am
http://www.radiosport.co.nz/ carry large chunks of commentary between news of domestic NZ cricket. I am listening to Aggers right now at 81-1
November 23rd, 2006 at 1.41 am
Bill – fabulous tip chap, cheers. Had a stressful few hours here in the Philippines trying to find coverage. Now… back to work..mmmm….
November 23rd, 2006 at 1.42 am
Yep, we must try to catch their names, although I think there’s been at least 12 of them in and out of the front room the last hour or so. Tried the Kiwi site, thanks Bill, but I don’t need a Kayak (with all accessories) for NZ$495.00 Hey, at least we got a wicket……….
November 23rd, 2006 at 1.46 am
don’t listen to the 2 Indian guys!!! The 2 other options are far far better and the NZ link is the best; it has abc commentary, and Agnew is currently commentating!!! they do have adverts tho, so switch to stan james when there’s a break. Cheers again to Bill for sending the link. Great news about the wicket! Get in Freddie!
November 23rd, 2006 at 1.53 am
tried penguin radio, BBC are wise to it. Guess it’s the Indian guys for now. Same prob as guy in Japan – I’m in France where abc should work – but doesn’t. I’m sure we’ll work something out soon.
November 23rd, 2006 at 1.54 am
NZ commentary is fine for ten minutes per hour…
November 23rd, 2006 at 2.01 am
roli – great stuff – I`m listening in Japan via penguinradio. thanks. I`m Irish but I`m hoping England beat the Ozzies!
November 23rd, 2006 at 2.01 am
I’m in China. So far I can only get the Cricketworld commentary, not great but better than nothing. I even got satellite tv installed only to discover that none of the sports channels are carrying the ashes – espn, eurosport, star sports…..argghhhhh! Anyone else here in Beijing?? I’d love to listen to TMS, does anyone know a good proxy server that will give me a UK IP address?
November 23rd, 2006 at 2.03 am
I was wrong thank god – penguin is working fine – cheers roli.
November 23rd, 2006 at 2.03 am
Kiwi station is better, but ads and Wellington darts results drive you nuts. Comments from my Indian mates like ‘Giles removes his sunglasses, or shades as we call them today,’ make it all worthwhile. Shame about the bloody score……..
November 23rd, 2006 at 2.11 am
i’m in china too (qingdao), the stan james one works but is rubbish… the penguin radio 4 link seems to work for TMS at the moment if you go for the first one (but it may just be lunch)
have a feeling the bbc folks will track this one down soon
… the search for a feed could become an ongoing story this winter….
November 23rd, 2006 at 2.14 am
Yeah have to admit, Penguin Radio is the definitely the way to go (thanks roli). The New Zealand station is very good, but far too many commercials, most of them for the upcoming JJ Cale/Eric Clapton release “The Road To Escondido”. Probably a great album, but it caused them to miss Flintoff getting Hayden out ??!!
November 23rd, 2006 at 2.15 am
If you’re outside the UK, what link off the Penguin Radio site do you use to listen to the cricket?
November 23rd, 2006 at 2.17 am
Big Al, I was just jumping for joy when I got TMS on R4 longwave via penguin radio, and now you’ve got me worried it’ll switch off after lunch! Arghhh!
November 23rd, 2006 at 2.19 am
Just got the ABC link on Penguin to work in Bermuda. It’s the news at the moment but I think it’s the cricket commentary later. BBC R5 doesn’t work here.
November 23rd, 2006 at 2.23 am
live commentary on penguin before lunch so should be ok after unless as you say the BBC catch on – tms have already wondered how somebody was listening in NZ.
November 23rd, 2006 at 2.23 am
Buffita – I’m listening using:
http://www.penguinradio.com/search/play.php?id=102608
Just praying I can still listen after lunch.
November 23rd, 2006 at 2.25 am
go to penguin radio and scroll down to radio 4 LW live
November 23rd, 2006 at 2.26 am
Cracked it. Radio 4 long wave via penguin link above, played through real player.
November 23rd, 2006 at 2.31 am
Maybe it’s an American thing because neither of the Radio 4 LW links are working for me at the moment
November 23rd, 2006 at 2.37 am
thanks for the info!
I’m in the US and can listen using the penguin link above. Thanks much for that–had about given up!
November 23rd, 2006 at 2.40 am
I got it to work off the ABC Cricket Radio site, Windows Media Player. None of the BBC sites seem to work for me here in the US-maybe it’s a Mac thing. I really want TMS rather than this Australian coverage.
November 23rd, 2006 at 2.44 am
I’m sorry that it won’t work for you–it took us a few tries. It didn’t work from the main penguin site, only from TaiTai’s link (who knows why).
I was going to try a UK proxy, but I know nothing about finding or using one.
November 23rd, 2006 at 2.48 am
Roli, thanks – I’m listening to TMS via R4 LW on Penguin, still can’t access ABC on Penguin or otherwise, who cares? Misery guts Boycott’s better!
November 23rd, 2006 at 2.53 am
Also just got ABC ling on Penguin to work in the US. Thanks for the tip. Actually heading to India for work tomorrow so surely I shouldn’t have too much trouble over there getting the score.
November 23rd, 2006 at 2.55 am
Well, first over after lunch and R4 LW is still live through penguin here. I’m assuming that if I were to close it and reconnect I’d be blocked out – therefore I will be leaving my computer on and connected to the radio until Jan 7th.
November 23rd, 2006 at 2.56 am
Thanks for the link TaiTai, TMS via Penguin!
November 23rd, 2006 at 2.56 am
This Penguin thing seems to work best here in Singapore. I’ve managed to get both the BBC LW and the ABC coverage. Tried the BBC first but I nearly puked when the comentators kept going on about their autobiographies and how wonderfull they were.
I did have to download an updated version of Real onto my machine, so this could possibly help those who are having difficulty with Penguin.
thanks,
Bill
November 23rd, 2006 at 3.07 am
This link below still works for ABC coverage (or it does for me anyway). But Tai Tai’s is also continuing to work just as well too. This should make a good few fellow ex-pats in Connecticut very happy !!!!!
November 23rd, 2006 at 3.10 am
if anyone’s closed and reconnected penguin without a problem let us know. Don’t fancy leaving my computer on until jan 7!
November 23rd, 2006 at 3.12 am
Here in Hong Kong, got ABC radio via penguin (many thanks for this link!)
No joy with Beeb 4 – just some woman saying sorry no can do. Yet, Radio 5 link works.
Google ads on penguin inc one for free satellite tv over Internet; tho haven’t tried this lest get dodgy stuff too.
HK Now Broadband tv package likewise has sports channels without cricket (as mentioned for China), but can get cricket channel for close to another £100 per year.
Happily, pub near my place has the cricket on tv, so will see some soon, hoping we’re not just a one bowler team!
November 23rd, 2006 at 3.15 am
I know we’re getting greedy but has anyone found a free satellite tv link?
November 23rd, 2006 at 3.16 am
We closed and reconnected and then opened on our other PC (better speakers) and it was fine. Still, don’t want to risk losing this connection unless I have to
Happy expats indeed!
November 23rd, 2006 at 3.24 am
thanks jennifer
November 23rd, 2006 at 3.39 am
The Radio Australia official site just redirected me to Cricket Australia tv site (CATV) – must be a new service, according to the blurb i can get a live video stream to the Ashes Tests & ODIs plus highlights for 24 odd dollars as long as i’m located in permitted territory (Japan is not on the banned list so I’m sorely tempted!)
Anyone tried this service?
November 23rd, 2006 at 3.59 am
What’s the link for that Griff?
November 23rd, 2006 at 4.13 am
Griff, am in Japan, paid $4.95 for 1 day and it doesn’t work. So don’t bother
November 23rd, 2006 at 4.17 am
http://www.cricketaustralia.tv/page/loginOrBuy
Jim, I emailed Cricket Australia asking them to CONFIRM 100% I’l be able to view live from here in Tokyo with Broadband
If they reply I’ll try and subscribe, i previously watched Test cricket on Willow tv so the technology shouldn’t fail…
November 23rd, 2006 at 4.21 am
Woohoo! Wicket!
Thanks for TMS link TaiTai. Am also in Beijing. There’s quite a network of cricket lovers out here that has developed from watching the last Ashes series at the Den.
I think that Franks’ Place (now near Lido) will have coverage too and there are quite a few of us planning on going there on the weekend.
I found Stan James link pretty good but lacking in atmosphere. TMS much better with the crowd noise.
November 23rd, 2006 at 4.24 am
griff, jim, I’m in the same position. We just spent $25 to get the full ashes coverage through cricketaustralia.tv and it doesn’t work. We used to use willow but now it’s unavailable. Sent out a couple of emails and am waiting nervously for a reply. If anyone has any joy please post and let the rest of us know.
November 23rd, 2006 at 4.34 am
i’m listening to abc radio can i listen bbc aswell? which one must i choose 5 live, 4 lw, sports extra?
November 23rd, 2006 at 4.39 am
Griff, I can’t see where it says there is live streaming video on cricket Australia. I’ve found another service which looks tempting: http://www.freewebs.com/kool2007
November 23rd, 2006 at 4.49 am
November 23rd, 2006 at 4.50 am
“Sign-up today and get
Live Channel 9 footage of The 3 mobile Ashes Series and every COmmonwealth Bank Series ODI this summer &
live ABC audio commentary for just $24.95 for the whole summer”
Still wating to get email reply from Cric Aus – they were happy to email me a fortnight ago to see if I needed to buy any of their leftover tickets…
C’mon Aussie etc
November 23rd, 2006 at 4.52 am
Hey, thanks for the advice given here – am listening here in Manitoba, Canada to ABC via Penguin.
+11 degrees today, down to minus 14 tonight – snow starting and will be white until next April – so the cricket is needed to get me through to spring.
November 23rd, 2006 at 4.55 am
yes, Canada & penguin – good match. It’s tea at the Gabba, has anyone on here actually WATCHED any play? How’s it all looking?
November 23rd, 2006 at 5.10 am
don’t log off on the BBC link i gave. i got booted by accidently switching it off and i can’t get back on. DAMN…..
November 23rd, 2006 at 5.17 am
i’m not able to listen the bbc tms… only abc. Which one can i try to hear tms again???
thnx all, greets stef
November 23rd, 2006 at 5.20 am
November 23rd, 2006 at 5.32 am
Oh great, now hearing the shipping forecast on penguin TMS, comes in very useful here in the concrete jungle of Tokyo
Gales all over the place, something or other falling quickly – unlike Aussie wickets unfortunately
November 23rd, 2006 at 5.33 am
Ah nuts. TMS cut to the shipping forecast and when that ended my access shut off.
November 23rd, 2006 at 5.35 am
same here
November 23rd, 2006 at 5.38 am
Oh no, after the shipping nonsense I’m getting the rights restrictions baloney!
November 23rd, 2006 at 5.40 am
griff can u give me ur link 2 tms, i only hear football or news all the time
November 23rd, 2006 at 5.42 am
guess the bbc caught on
November 23rd, 2006 at 5.43 am
please help me with a new feed…shipping forecast just cut me…help!!!
November 23rd, 2006 at 5.52 am
gutted!ABC no match for TMS,guess it’s not our day,let the rain dance commence!?
November 23rd, 2006 at 6.07 am
If you are trying penguin and having no luck, keep trying! I have clicked the link about ten times now, getting the contractural message, and suddenly, it connected after a few clicks and whistles.
I am in Thailand, one of the blacklisted countries. BTW, the TMS from the BBC UK is almost impossible to crack unless you can get a link to Radio 4 Long Wave.
For those who have given up with penguin, here it is once more.
http://www.penguinradio.com/search/play.php?id=110630
Good to hear the Ozz news again!
November 23rd, 2006 at 6.14 am
If you can get Five Live Sports Extra you will get the TMS ball by ball coverage. Five Live on its own is just a news and sports programme. Here in Thailand the weather is just the same as at the Gabba so I am feeling quite at home. The beer is cold and the the weather hot! I have paid £7.95 for a TV feed but haven’t loaded it yet. If it does work I will let you all know. There seems to be an awful lot of expats trying to catch the cricket. Makes me feel all matey with you!!
Good luck.
November 23rd, 2006 at 6.15 am
Bugger. ABC it is then, which is ok, but they’re no Blowers and Aggers. Plus I have to constantly listen to “3 for 292″ instead of “292 for 3″…..I’m new to this blog, but I’m sure that discussion has already taken place! This is a great blog though, I’ll be sticking around!
November 23rd, 2006 at 6.21 am
Cheers lads. Penguin site is working well from the US. Bloody BBC let me down again. Looking like the aussies are doing well, just hit 300/3. In the words of the song….there may be trouble ahead…
November 23rd, 2006 at 6.22 am
300 for 3!!! Not looking to good for us Poms!
November 23rd, 2006 at 6.29 am
Rubik, we’re just toying with them. Don’t forget we lost the 1st test last time!
November 23rd, 2006 at 6.43 am
.
November 23rd, 2006 at 6.46 am
Come on Aggers, sort that commentary box out
November 23rd, 2006 at 6.51 am
Give em some stick Aggers
November 23rd, 2006 at 7.56 am
Willow tv just emailed me:
“Regions which do not have live coverage are very likely to have rights for video highlights package”
Thanks – how many wickets have gone down today?
Plenty of lowlights then….
November 23rd, 2006 at 8.21 am
this(www.penguinradio.com) is really helped me to hear the ashes live from india .thanks to every one.
November 23rd, 2006 at 2.36 pm
cameron, jim did you hear from Cricket Australia TV about the streaming video? Any luck trying it again?
They just emailed me to confirm there should be no problem accessing the service from here in Japan.
November 23rd, 2006 at 7.49 pm
Came across this site, seems to cover the ashes pretty well & promises live audio & video, with several links given which actually work! Basic windows media player, real player & sopcast links are all thats required.
November 23rd, 2006 at 7.52 pm
Forgot the site name its http://www.freewebs.com/criclink/ just skim thru the adverts to get to the serious bits….
November 24th, 2006 at 12.09 am
whats happened to TMS on penguin??!!!! Any advice to get it back?
November 24th, 2006 at 1.11 am
Yeah, the “poms” at the BBC seem to be a bit smarter than the “cons” at ABC (surprise !!). They’re now blocking the commentary on Penguin, but the “oh so impartial” ABC coverage can still be heard by going to the link below. No I’m not being serious, it’s not that bad really ???!!!. Happy Thanksgiving to those of you also watching/listening in the USA:
November 24th, 2006 at 1.30 am
Well done Freddie!!
I just heard the commentator invite people to contact them and tell them where they are listening to the cricket. I trust no-one will tell them they are in Argentina and listening on the internet!! I am wondering just how long it will be before the BBC/ABC combo gets their fingers on this site and blocks it somehow. I keep my fingers crossed.
November 24th, 2006 at 1.35 am
I missed the first day highlights tonight because i had to work. Now i tried to get access to it via the BBC site but guess what!? Uk users only… this dirty right-wing own people only policy pisses me off…
Can’t wait to see that Hussey stump cartwheeling in the highlights of tomorrow lol GO FREDDIE!

November 24th, 2006 at 1.41 am
is there anyone out there supporting the aussies?
I detect a little bias…….
November 24th, 2006 at 1.42 am
no
November 24th, 2006 at 1.43 am
ala1979, did I hear you right? You mention you can hear the ashes live from India. I presume you mean ‘in India’ as the ashes are only ever played in UK or Oz.
November 24th, 2006 at 1.44 am
mastered your own language I see.
Forgive me, I am a little annoyed cos I am sitting in my office…beautiful weather outside….beer garden with plasma screen out my window just far enough away that i can’t see the tv.
November 24th, 2006 at 1.52 am
Rufus, I guess that most of the people listening on line are Expats spread far and wide around the globe. All the expat dingoes are in Soho-London or running bungy jumping outfits in stupid parts of the world where there is no internet. Those dingoes in UK probably haven’t realised that the cricket is on the internet, indeed, they can watch the highlights on BBC each evening. That’s why most of us on this site are biased in favour of the POMs.
November 24th, 2006 at 1.55 am
I’m giving up on work. Its 30 degrees and I need some beer and sunshine.
Always nice to watch the poms lose something/everything.
I am going to be popular aren’t I?
November 24th, 2006 at 2.06 am
I’m listening in Bermuda and I swear I just heard a Harmison delivery just go past my living room window. Mainly poms here, nver met an Aussie in muda.
November 24th, 2006 at 2.08 am
I can’t even get Penguin radio now, anyone else having the same problem?
November 24th, 2006 at 2.10 am
CONVICTS NEVER FORGET
November 24th, 2006 at 2.17 am
Hi TaiTai, I lost the connection some time ago but after a few tries I managed to get reconnected. Just as a matter of interest, where are we all listening from? Phil is in Bermuda, lucky guy. I was there in the 70s for a holiday, staying just across the bay from Hamilton. It was a great holiday but expensive I seem to recall.
Mickey is in Florida, where I just left a few weeks ago after doing some work in Miami. The look on the hotel receptionist face when I asked her how far was the walk to the nearest diner just about sums up the US of A attitude to energy consumption. I’ll call you a cab sir. It was all of one mile and took me about fifteen minutes in the pleasant sunshine.
Btw, I am in Thailand now, back home, where the temp is 32C, the breeze is coming off the sea and all is well with the world out here apart from the fact that the Dingoes have a fair few runs.
November 24th, 2006 at 2.20 am
ABC on Penguin still working fine here in New England.
And I don’t know how anyone outside of Oz could like that team…..Glenn McGrath is one of the most arrogant twats in any sport, even when compared to the likes of Arsene Wenger, Alex Ferguson, and “insert your favorite MLB baseball player here” ??!!
November 24th, 2006 at 2.37 am
Bermuda’s just as expensive, but a pretty cool place to live for a few years. I agree with Sid on McGrath. What a Tw*t, but at least he can bowl it on the middle bit. Don’t worry lads Freddie will get us a draw out of this………..
November 24th, 2006 at 2.38 am
Listening in Limoges, SW France. A bit less exotic than Bermuda, Florida or Thailand. Limoges is the Stoke on Trent of France – rain, pottery and unemployment. I’m the only person in town who gives a toss about the ashes. Try explaining to the French that i’m staying up all night listening avidly in the hope of a draw in a game that lasts 5 days. Bell will get 200 no problem.
November 24th, 2006 at 2.43 am
Since y’all are wondering where people are I’m in Singapore. Like Rufus I am supporting the Antipodeans. Nothing wrong with a bit of light hearted banter, part of the crack I think and fully in keeping with the occasion. Mr. Flintoff is singlehandedly keeping the poms in the game and deserves much kudos and respect for doing so. Harmey deserves everything he is getting re his performance at the moment. Seems to me the poms should be kicking themselves for leaving out The Monty: you could do with an attacking and thus potenitally wicket taking bowler at the moment.
Prediction: Oz declares for 6 for 600 or so and has a go at after tea. England will be 3 for 60 at stumps.
November 24th, 2006 at 2.44 am
ABC on Penguin working again now – sorry, I panicked a bit. Listening in Beijing. Cold. Well, at least we seem to be getting some swing today, but a bit late I fear…
November 24th, 2006 at 2.48 am
My wife’s just shouted ‘don’t forget to tell them Warnes’ a bit of a tw*t as well.’ Nah, he’s ok.
November 24th, 2006 at 2.54 am
anyone got videohighlights from the first day? or got a way around the bbc to see their highlights on which were on bbc2 today. Every other video from the first day with some cricket in it will do anyway
November 24th, 2006 at 2.57 am
I’m English, but I just can’t stop watching this…

November 24th, 2006 at 3.06 am
I’m back on TMS!!!!
November 24th, 2006 at 3.09 am
Cool, works again for me now. Cheers.
November 24th, 2006 at 3.14 am
Well done penguin, TMS back on line. Don’t tell the BBC!
November 24th, 2006 at 3.17 am
Did you hear that stat about Ponting? Last time he scored 200 in an inninigs, the Dingoes lost the match. Great news!!
November 24th, 2006 at 3.25 am
Rubik, I think you just jinxed Ponting….ooh that’s gotta hurt!
November 24th, 2006 at 3.27 am
What a pity, out for 196. I was hoping he would make 200 bearing in mind that the last time Ponting made 200 the Dingoes lost the match!
November 24th, 2006 at 3.38 am
Aussie Aussie Aussie…………..
Die you dirty pommy bastards!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ha!Ha!
November 24th, 2006 at 3.41 am
I say old chap, there’s no need for that!
November 24th, 2006 at 3.43 am
Heaps of Ashes links at http://www.sportsfreak.co.nz
Cricbuzz audio is good value.
November 24th, 2006 at 3.44 am
Seems like someone at TMS is a bit sharper than blowers, so I’m back on ABC but keep it up guys, I’m for one very grateful here in Waterloo, Ontario
November 24th, 2006 at 3.47 am
still on tms – try again
November 24th, 2006 at 5.29 am
Here’s the bloody shipping forecast again, hope I don’t get booted like yesterday!
November 24th, 2006 at 5.30 am
Oh no, just tried for TMS on penguin and got the bloody shipping forecast again!
November 24th, 2006 at 5.32 am
Booted! Arrrgggghhhhhhh!!!!
November 24th, 2006 at 5.38 am
Back to ABC Dingo radio, thank goodness for that at least!
November 24th, 2006 at 6.35 am
Hey guys, am listening in from China! Thank goodness for penguin_radio! Was getting worried that I would miss out on listening to the poms getting battered a bit. Yeah, i’m with rufus and reidman. But hey, thanks for this thread.

November 24th, 2006 at 6.37 am
Me too, the Ockers are working at treat at least – oh no, Strauss is out, Lee too by the sounds of things…
November 24th, 2006 at 7.12 am
3 for 47! Nostradamus is my middle name!!!
November 24th, 2006 at 7.36 am
“Bill said …
Prediction: Oz declares for 6 for 600 or so and has a go at after tea. England will be 3 for 60 at stumps.”
Reality: Oz declares for 9 for 602, England 3 for 53 at stumps.
Bill, that was a very good call! I take my hat off to you!
November 24th, 2006 at 8.02 am
Tai Tai, talking of hats you need to pull that rabbit out (off the air conditioning unit) to bring us luck, especially to our own rabbits Jones, Giles, Hoggster, Anderson & Harmie!
November 24th, 2006 at 3.23 pm
Griff, I’ll go one better – I’ll rescue the rabbit, and then send a lucky foot to each of the above named (it’s a mutant rabbit with five feet)
\A five foot rabbit?! Arggghhhhh!!
November 24th, 2006 at 4.07 pm
Five feet? It’s late and I reckon you’ve been on the old Maotai….
Get back to your tai tai!
November 25th, 2006 at 1.04 am
Blocked on Radio 4 penguin link again, so back to Abc.
For those of you who can get Radio 4, the Shipping Forecast comes on regularly, and bumps all sport while it plays. It’s one of our favourite jokes!
November 25th, 2006 at 1.05 am
On Thursday during a bank holiday over here in Japan I managed to find TMS online via a link the bbc seemed to have missed. On Friday I had to go to work and couldn’t find the same link so resorted to ABC commentary via Penguin – thanks to this blog I might add. But back at home this weekend and I’ve re-found it today, so hopefully this will help a couple of you guys out.
We’re 79 for 5 now and Boycott is predicting the end of the world….he might be right. Anyway, the link is
Hope it works for you guys too!
November 25th, 2006 at 1.55 am
we got the arse from penguin, so are listening to 2 indian blokes on cricketworld.com they arent cutting out much at all. were in Big white canada and it was -10 today, all we want to do is turn up our heaters to 30deg and listen to the cricket and make it feel like home
November 25th, 2006 at 3.28 am
It seems there is no rhyme or reason to if and when you can get TMS from BBC Radio4 or the ABC from Oz. I have tried flipping between the two and now I am back with the BBC. It seems to be blocked at the beginning of each session but if you try later you might get lucky, like I have now. 142-6. What a long way to go!!
November 25th, 2006 at 4.17 am
Same here, Rubik. We’ve had on ABC and now we can get TMS again. They must block the start of play only, as you say.
Still, grateful that we have coverage at all as we didn’t think we’d find anything.
November 25th, 2006 at 4.28 am
Aha, ta for the beeb link, working just now
- now I’m listening to beeb feed, not abc, the match is gonna swing our way…
With abc via penguin, I found realplayer started cutting out after 3 mins or so, windows media better.
Hope at least some feeds survive (seems the limitations on official feeds are daft; the 05 ashes was on beeb internet worldwide), esp as pub here on island I’m on doesn’t have the ashes, and I don’t wanna fork out extra for cricket channel on basis of this test so far!
November 25th, 2006 at 4.39 am
I hope you’re right Doc. Quite glad I’m not watching this onslaught by Matty Hayden though.
Still, couple of triple hundreds from Cook and Bell in the 2nd innings should see us home!
November 25th, 2006 at 4.50 am
I’m in Japan too, Cricket Australia emailed me this morning to flog me the whole series & ODIs with good ch9 Ocker coverage for $24.95 – I swallowed it and am now watching the carnage on my pc : (
Pigeon now being interviewed on the boundary edge as Hayden flays the bowling to all parts…
Roll on the tea-break
November 25th, 2006 at 4.57 am
Well, I’m only over here till mid-Dec so going to plump for that option – although it does sound a good deal. Off to Oz for three weeks for the 4th test which I have tickets for. Going to Sydney for test 5 but not got tickets for that one. I’m just sat here hoping the series is still alive by that point.
November 25th, 2006 at 5.32 am
Radio Australia ball by ball is available here in Madras, India- jim maxwell, glenn mitchell, kerry o keefe…..
November 25th, 2006 at 5.42 am
In Canada and listened to penguin for an hour, but lost it after the bleeding weather forecast. Can’t get it now. Anyone else?
November 25th, 2006 at 6.15 am
sorry i should have said BBC TMS ball by ball is available here in Madras India- Henry blofeld, Geoff Boycott and others
November 25th, 2006 at 6.32 am
jake
here in hong kong. can get the abc through penguin, but not the beeb. just get the “sorry, no can do” tale over and over. the ozzie jingoism on abc is dismal. desperate for the wit and woe of the pom commentators
November 25th, 2006 at 6.42 am
Hey, Mr. Prabhu please let me know how u r able to hear TMS or Radio australia in Madras. I am in Bangalore and unable to tune in. Whats the way to listen?
November 25th, 2006 at 6.52 am
Griff, any idea if I’d be able to receive that in beijing?
November 25th, 2006 at 7.00 am
Link by Phil in Japan, for bbc, worked for me at first; but then, got nothing with it. No fun just now for England fanz, even if could be magically transported to the ground.
November 25th, 2006 at 7.24 am
come on you england!! oh dear. oh dear. well i’m happy i finally found some commentary here in south korea even if we are getting hammered. a cup of yorkshire tea will put it all right.
November 25th, 2006 at 7.32 am
we need an atherton style stand for the draw here.
November 25th, 2006 at 7.56 am
Tai Tai – see this link to see if it possible
http://www.cricketaustralia.tv/page/FAQs/0,,12377,00.html
Teppic –
Sod the cricket, let’s just talk about Everton!
November 25th, 2006 at 9.25 pm
I agree with Griff, although it’s Chelsea we should be talking about, and how they’ll take Scum apart tomorrow afternoon !!!!.
Anyway, I’m off to see Gov’t Mule tonight at a local theatre in Wallingford CT, so no listening to cricket on Penguin radio for me thankfully. And unlike the bloody 1st Test, I know that this gig won’t be an embarrassing disappointment (not with Warren Haynes running things anyway !!!).
And for Christ’s sake, the damn Rugby team aren’t any better either ???!!! Pains me to say it, but you almost have to be thankful for that d*ckhead Robbie Williams – and Englishman who’s every bit the arrogant tosser that Glen McGrath is…at least we can compete in something ???!!!.
Enough from me – over & out !!!!
November 26th, 2006 at 2.20 am
All I can say is, thank goodness I am listening to this slaughter at a respectable time of day here in Thailand. Did anyone see the Tri Nations final yesterday? Guess who won?
Yes, the Kangaroos as the hysterical Oz commentator called them. Talk about biased coverage, worse than ABC cricket!
I do hope next week the Poms turn up to play. So far it has been abysmall. I’m glad in a way that I haven’t got tickets for any match, never mind the 5th Test! Mind you, never say die, it might turn ouit to be the decider!
Keep your chins up folks, all is not lost, yet!
For those of you who are new to this blog and haven’t taken the time to read through it, here, once again, are the links we are swapping between.

November 26th, 2006 at 2.40 am
Cheers Griff, though it looks like It’s radio only for me!
November 26th, 2006 at 2.46 am
Tai Tai, think you’re better off than me – the tv Ockers are unbearable, Bell just got out and they went overboard praising BILL ‘Gotcha’ LAWRY for the superb bit of commentary!
November 26th, 2006 at 6.37 am
Can someone please post the link to get ABC via Penguin on Windows Media Player?
Real Player keeps cutting out and I’ve not yet been able to figure out how to play it on Media Player.
November 26th, 2006 at 6.47 am
Actually – found it – Media Player much better for ABC for some reason!
November 26th, 2006 at 10.43 pm
Hello
I am listening in stockholm. Well not listening at the moment. I have a mac and all that happens when I open a link on penguin is some weird download.
Can anyone help me with this. I want to hear pietersen give it to the ausies again.
Help!
November 27th, 2006 at 12.01 am
Looks like the bbc has stopped the radio 4 LW penguin feed. Luckily enough the ABC one is still ok.
November 27th, 2006 at 1.42 am
Don’t think “luckily enough” is very apt, do you? One nil down, four to play.
November 27th, 2006 at 1.58 am
I’ve just watched England’s sad demise on free Internet TV (for those of you who might be interested for the Second Test). I managed to get it on a TV program I downloaded to watch the football World Cup here in Spain after a broadcasting rights cock-up left most of the country without proper coverage. If you want to try, go to http://www.sopcast.org and download the program. Then, when it has loaded, look at the channel list and select one called “incricket”. It appears to be a cable channel aimed at Asians living in Canada, but it takes a Channel 9 feed from Australia. The quality’s not 100% but it’s quite watchable. Good luck!
November 30th, 2006 at 9.13 am
Ok, further to Simon’s suggestion, I have downloaded the Sopcast gizmo, and I have to say it’s excellent. BUT…
There’s an announcement from their admin here: http://forum.sopcast.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1259
asking people to stop broadcasting the cricket on their service, so it looks like a no go for tomorrow. I will try and if it’s on there will let you know on here.
Cheers
November 30th, 2006 at 9.26 am
I wouldn’t give up on the cricket for tomorrow just yet – that request to stop broadcasting is from March this year, it’s not a new one. Of course, there is no guarantee that it will be broadcast, but there’s no reason to think it won’t be.
November 30th, 2006 at 2.56 pm
Simon, I too am in Stockholm and using a Mac. I had all sorts of difficulties las test… Unfortunately I didnt find this thread. Am ready for the 2nd test but still dont know how I am going to listen/watch (other than above suggestions). i went into sopcast and it said that they dont support macs at this stage. How did you get to work? Are you using your mac to watch?
November 30th, 2006 at 4.15 pm
Hi Chris
I’m using a PC, so if Sopcast say they don’t support Macs then there probably isn’t any way you can use it. Can you at least get the radio commentary via Penguin or don’t they support Macs either?
November 30th, 2006 at 4.21 pm
Good grief, I had no idea this post had attracted nearly 200 replies. Sorry to hear some of you are still having trouble watching or listening to the Ashes…it must be a nightmare. I know it’s a shameless plug but don’t forget my employers, Cricinfo – we do offer a pretty comprehensive coverage, including live ball-by-ball commentary (descriptive…not just “McGrath to Strauss, no run”). But of course if you do manage to find some online radio, then that’s cool.
November 30th, 2006 at 6.03 pm
Simon, I got on to cricket world first. How desperate am i to listen to a couple of Indian guys watching a TV god knows where! Stan James was slightly better with its fake crowd background. I’ll try penguin tonight. I seem to remember Ive had luck with that in the past. Cant believe we’re being shut out. I mean cricket isnt exactly a world sport (we’re probably 2 of a dozen or so trying to listen in this country). Why are they bothered? As if Swedes could give a damn about the ashes (no one’s heard of them anyway)! Anyway, I’ll be trying tonight. Would love to get either ABC or BBC. we’ll see. Anyone get any interesting avenues tonight please let us know. Good luck everyone!
Will, Cricinfo is a great site. But we need audio man…
November 30th, 2006 at 9.55 pm
Hello
I will be up listening if I can.
I have a mac and jut cannot get any commentary to work. So bloody annoying.
Please somebody help me out with this.
Si
November 30th, 2006 at 10.30 pm
now I realize there’s 2 simons and that youre the one with the mac in stockholm. Or? I have a Mac in Stockholm and I can get cricket world and stan James. havent tried penguin yet but I’ll let you know if anything works. Let me know what you come up with. Cheers.
November 30th, 2006 at 10.34 pm
I am frantically trying to get some sort of coverage.
I have even tried to pay for it. But crocket australia wont let us mac users onto the feed!
How australian. Only joking, I love the place. Manly is the best place ever.
Let me know if you find anything
Si
November 30th, 2006 at 10.49 pm
Have you not tried Stanjames or cricketworld? BTW, I’m Australian, but I agree that this whole thing is a load of crap.
November 30th, 2006 at 10.56 pm
my stan james doesn’t work either.
I cannot listen to cricket world again though. Seriously that is the worst commentary of all time.
I have tried spocast and that does not work. No mac software.
I have tried penguin but cant get a feed to work.
I am really trying to find something worth staying up for.
Who else in sweden, apart from us two is listening?
November 30th, 2006 at 10.59 pm
I was in sweden until a couple of months ago, right now I am in canada
I listened to the last ashes in my flat in the wenner gren center at the end of sveavagen, hope to go back one day, although you’ve probably not got past the grey wet bit yet, have you?
November 30th, 2006 at 11.12 pm
No one. But boy cricket Australia could make a load of money from people paying to listen in this country. Va?! And we cant even pay to listen. What a bunch of imbeciles
Stan James is definitely better than Cricket world. My girlfriend laughed hysterically when i told her i sat up on the first night of the first test listening to two old Indian guys watching a TV in Bombay (probably). Stan James is probably worth going for (staying up for? dont know, I’m only going for the first session). It works on my computer. I have Mac OSX 10.3.9, G3 processor. I cant figure out what software its using to play the commentary. I have Quicktime 7.1, Windows Media Player 9. Sometimes it goes through Itunes (7). You might need to update???
You probably have this link, but here it is again. I just went in there and got some kind of recorded pre-commentary. Try it out again
November 30th, 2006 at 11.15 pm
Exiledpom, it was great last year. I just loved the BBC commentary. But we’ve been cut out from that now. Yeah Sweden’s not bad. Very dark in November.
November 30th, 2006 at 11.25 pm
Is Sweden on the banned list? here in non-banned Japan I can watch the whole series & ODIs live on streaming video (‘courtesy’ of ch9 in Australia) for $24.95 via Cricket Australia TV.
Just heard Monty is NOT in the team – two nil will be hard to come back from.
November 30th, 2006 at 11.50 pm
I was going to try and listen…then i heard monty is out…. so i’d rather get some sleep than listen to another defensive, none believing performance… Anderson? You’ve got to be joking haven’t you?!
…still….if you find an active link tonight…please post it!…I am in Zurich and there is nothing
December 1st, 2006 at 12.28 am
December 1st, 2006 at 12.44 am
for the moment getting ABC grandstand on
December 1st, 2006 at 1.12 am
ABC on Penguin works in Bermuda. Most other things don’t work here though…………
December 1st, 2006 at 1.16 am
Simon, if you find that channel again for the 2nd test, please let me know on here, I’d really appreciate that.
December 1st, 2006 at 1.17 am
this might help. change your proxy by going to “tools” “internet options”. go to the connection tab and the to LAN settings. tick the proxy box and put in 129.12.3.74 and in the port box put 3127. this should allow you to listen to tms but it will cut out after a while.
December 1st, 2006 at 1.42 am
anyone watching cricket on sopcast? i cant find a stream supplying…
greets steff
December 1st, 2006 at 1.46 am
http://stanjames.teamtalk.com/StanJames/Ashes_Popup
is the best audio site if you are not in Oz or the UK
December 1st, 2006 at 1.48 am
edblack thanks. Thaat seems to be working at the moment. Listening to ABC through Penguin.
December 1st, 2006 at 1.59 am
Try this one fellas – live streaming video:
http://www.stickam.com/largeChat.do?uId=173791332¤tMedia=thumbnail&login=1
December 1st, 2006 at 2.14 am
and now the video has gone down – just audio
December 1st, 2006 at 2.14 am
Ok Sopcast users: there is now a live cricket channel available. It’s not very watchable though, but I’ll be checking the list for new channels with better quality. You’ll need to restart or refresh the list and look under Test Group.
December 1st, 2006 at 2.25 am
TMS is working again now http://www.penguinradio.com/search/play.php?id=102608
I expect it will be ok until “attention all shipping”
December 1st, 2006 at 3.00 am
Bless you all for posting links… the stickam is still working…I’m watching live!
The cricket orgs should be ashamed…we have millions of expat Aussies and Brits in Canada and we’re all scrambling around like we did back in Short Wave Radio days. No way to see it anywhere.
I’m not risking international payments for dodgy service. The Aussies are killing this and for what reason? Let us see the damned game!
December 1st, 2006 at 4.10 am
I couldn’t agree more Neil!
The idea behind the internet was for the free exchange of ideas and information – at least it still seems to winning over the money men!! (ahem, for now)
December 1st, 2006 at 4.20 am
anyone no whats happened to stickam. hes busy with the weather?!
December 1st, 2006 at 4.32 am
StickAm is back on now… he’s streaming his desktop…nice of him!
December 1st, 2006 at 4.33 am
yes …i went from watching bell to hotmail and then weather.quite funny. still some cricket is better than none.
December 1st, 2006 at 4.49 am
Thanks to Tom R!
The streaming video on Stickam is working well.I can see clearly bell and collingwood batting ![]()
Video quality aint bad either. Listening to Botham after a Long time.
Go England!!
December 1st, 2006 at 5.23 am
I’m just glad we’ve streaming video of this innings rather than the first test!
December 1st, 2006 at 6.11 am
I’m listening to day of one of the 2nd test in Southern California on:
http://www.abc.net.au/streaming/events/live720.asx
That should get you around the not-in-Oz IP blocking if you connect though a radio station website.
The Stan James teamtalk “in studio” commentary is not bad at all, and serves as my fallback if I can’t gatecrash anything else:
http://stanjames.teamtalk.com/StanJames/Ashes_Popup
Go Collingwood!
December 1st, 2006 at 6.13 am
Hi guys,
I’m in Oslo, Norway, and thanks to you got ABC Local coverage from Brissy, but no luck so far from Adelaide. Shame on the everyone associated with the broadcasting rights – free-to-air my a**… And I’m neutral (failing the Tebbit Test and proud!)…
Will try again tonight.

I always have the cricinfo comms up while listening to the radio feed. Great stuff.
December 1st, 2006 at 11.45 am
For those of us without tv coverage during the day and would like to watch online highlights, I can recommend Sky Sports:
http://link.brightcove.com/services/player/bcpid340480114
Cheers, see you tomorrow no doubt.
December 1st, 2006 at 3.00 pm
Tai Tai, thanks for putting up that SkySports hilites link, my online deal with Cric Aus only includes streaming video of live play.
Nice to hear Athers & co instead of O’Dronell, Tubby & Gottim!
December 1st, 2006 at 11.37 pm
Guys
Anyone out there in Spain with a mac?
Trying to get some kind of coverage and I’m afraid those two Indian chaps commentating from their bedroom is too much for me.
Any ideas would be much appreciated gents.
Come on England…
December 1st, 2006 at 11.52 pm
40 minutes ’til action. I’ve got the ABC pregame show going on:
http://www.abc.net.au/streaming/events/live720.asx
If you use this link it will take you right to their streaming server bypassing the intermediate IP filtering to check for Aussie-only registered WAN addresses.
If you can’t get in there, at .25 past the hour the Stan James unofficial in studio team will go on the air:
http://stanjames.teamtalk.com/StanJames/Ashes_Popup
Go Pieterson!

Here’s hoping Stickamwakes up soon
December 2nd, 2006 at 1.02 am
Phil – Link doesnt work for me – Shame!!
WAKE UP STICKAM!!!!!
Our boys are on top and we are missing it!!
December 2nd, 2006 at 1.11 am
I’m in Hong Kong with a Mac; getting ABC via penguin – Windows Media link seems best.
Clicking on realplayer link leads to downloading small file, cricket.ram: can open this and start realplayer, but not trying to see if it lasts.
Pietersen just belted couple of balls from McGrath – who Sir Geoffrey says is on his last legs in test cricket. Third boundary this over from KP. 300 up. That should lead to some more crabby comments from Aussie press.
December 2nd, 2006 at 1.17 am
I just saw this link on the Guardian website – what do people think of it:
December 2nd, 2006 at 1.22 am
Thanks Doc, works!
Would still prefer to see our boys knock the convicts off the park though
December 2nd, 2006 at 2.10 am
Anyone know of any live video feed available in the USA to watch the ashes???
Stickam last night was quality!
Any help gratefully received.
December 2nd, 2006 at 2.17 am

December 2nd, 2006 at 3.07 am
stickam was awesome last night, watched until the close at 3.30am in Nova Scotia; will he come back tonight? tonight so far I’ve got abc radio, that’s still a whole lot better than cricketworld – that sounds like a peter sellers skit!!
December 2nd, 2006 at 3.47 am
Thanks for the penguin link . Works bloody well here in Vietnam on the ABC feed .
If I was in Oz , I could listen online direct , but as an expat I cant !!!!
Shouldnt it be the other way around .
( wait ,, a boundary has just been scored,,, action at last)
December 2nd, 2006 at 4.56 am
stickam is really needed now. Collingwood is nearing 200.
stickam get home now plz
December 2nd, 2006 at 5.07 am
Just sat at home in good old blighty watching Collingwood chip Clarke M over Mid for 200, on Sky sports listening to the downstreaming from ABC ( about 1 1/2 ball delay). Enjoying watching the Aussies getting a taste of their own medicine. KP is very special at the moment. Long may it last.
December 2nd, 2006 at 6.03 am

December 3rd, 2006 at 12.28 am
Chaps – for all of those in Canada (and maybe the US too)the CARIB channel on cable/satellite is showing the Australian feed live! Channel 640 on Rogers. Need to subscribe at $14.95 but a small price to pay hopefully!
December 3rd, 2006 at 12.46 am
I am listening through skype.
Not such a good connection
is stickam on tonight?
we must get them out. Come on england
December 3rd, 2006 at 1.04 am
go to Sopcast – downloads – click the US link, then downalod the “Sopcast 1.0.1 Webplayer for Windows” (not the first one -second on the list).
then when it starts the Sopcast webplayer, on the right go down to the test group and pick channel ‘13117. Live Cricket’, click on this – be patient as it loads, and then it will stream – it’s not perfect but its the best I’ve found.
tip – close all other web pages and applications and close all the quickstart menu stuff that sits in the memory – come on ENNGGGGERRRRRLAND!!
December 3rd, 2006 at 1.10 am
oh, and clear your cache and your temp internet files – will help a LOT
December 3rd, 2006 at 1.10 am
oh, and clear your cache and your temp internet files – will help a LOT
December 3rd, 2006 at 1.16 am
did I mention that clearing your cache and your temp internet files – will help a LOT?? DOH!
December 3rd, 2006 at 1.34 am
“and so australia are now 3 for 65 in response to england’s 6 for 551″ – aggers on ABC, he was doing so well being impartial, but when that sentence came out, he couldn’t keep it supressed
December 3rd, 2006 at 1.35 am
“and so australia are now 3 for 65 in response to england’s 6 for 551″ – aggers on ABC, he was doing so well being impartial, but when that sentence came out, he couldn’t keep it suppressed
December 3rd, 2006 at 1.52 am
Tom, do you suppose that clearing your cache and your temp internet files may help at all?
December 3rd, 2006 at 2.06 am
TMS back on again:
December 3rd, 2006 at 2.18 am
If you have a Mac, running OSX, you’ll need RealPlayer (the free version ) for Mac, and also the Windows Media PLayer for MAc, and they should cover most of what you encounter.
I am listening to the ABC website stream –
http://www.abc.net.au/streaming/events/live720.asx
running on the WMV for Mac free software.
Penguin Real Player link also works – http://www.penguinradio.com
Its 88-3 and the Aussies dont look so good! Pity Giles just dropped Punter….
December 3rd, 2006 at 3.23 am
Actually Tom, I now have Sopcast on with the sound off and TMS for the commentary. You need to rewind TMS about 3 mins to synchronise the picture with the sound. It works though!
December 3rd, 2006 at 3.53 am
Just found Sopcast channel and it is awful.
I use it for Football and it is great.
I am stuck listening to BBC via the telephone (I called me mum in Manchester)
December 3rd, 2006 at 4.11 am
does anyone else have a problem connect to the radio 4 LW stream. I can connect to the FM stream fine but the LW one keep asking for realplayer to downlaod more sotware which it then fails to do
December 3rd, 2006 at 4.11 am
Jeremy,
Blue or Red?
December 3rd, 2006 at 4.14 am
Tai Tai – try standing on one leg, doing a haka, then bend down and sing “Do Ray Me” fives time – that should work….then try clearing deleting yer temporary internet files and cache…..;-)
December 3rd, 2006 at 4.40 am

December 3rd, 2006 at 5.50 am
…has anyone got an up to date link for TMS for the evening session?…The shipping forecast came in and then that annoying woman told me off!
December 3rd, 2006 at 6.23 am
rich, yeah she does that every day – bloody annoying! I can usually get it back eventually but only about 30 minutes before stumps.
Tom – now watching the incricket channel on sopcast and it’s nigh on perfect streaming – even looks ok in full screen. I’m virtually in Adelaide…
December 3rd, 2006 at 3.39 pm
does anyone know an equivilant peice of software for the mac of winamp?
I have a source for a livestream of the ashes but i cant flippin using it! NIGHTMARE continues!…if u could help i’d really appreciate it.
Loved the commentary on ABC last night…especially the drunk guy right outside the commentary box, near the microphone..he hurling abuse at anyone who came near him! Priceless!

This is pretty cool. listening to abc and watching this. it is pretty cool.
http://www.foxsports.com.au/story/0,8659,20864052-23217,00.html
December 4th, 2006 at 1.17 am
I tried the Sopcast. If the bandwith buffering issues could be solved (i.e. be able to buffer > 60 seconds) this could be quite promising. I’d be more than happy to be 2-5 mins behind the action if it meant I could get a steady smooth playback of the feed, instead of the good for 30 seconds then brain-dead for 30-60 seconds I’m getting, even at the so-so picture quality this provided.
December 4th, 2006 at 1.37 am
Looks like both the Spocast cricket feeds abruptly went off the air. Oh well… back to the ABC radio feed at:
http://www.abc.net.au/streaming/events/live720.asx
At least it’s reliable and has high quality content.
December 4th, 2006 at 2.07 am
the penguin is UP
December 4th, 2006 at 4.14 am
please tell about radio commentary india tour south africa
December 4th, 2006 at 6.09 am
Sopcast working.
December 5th, 2006 at 12.44 am
Help, can’t find any TMS feeds, just that bloody voice saying that rights issues prevent broadcasting and Sopcast is terrible. Yes, it’s probably going to be a drw, but it would still be nice to listen to some tonight. Has anyone got any current links that work???
December 5th, 2006 at 1.03 am
I’ve got the ABC feed going. I’ve been listening for about an hour today including a nice (short) pregame show. The commentators are very easy going, listening to them is just like hanging with a group of guys sitting in front of the TV armed with a sixpack:
http://www.abc.net.au/streaming/events/live720.asx
If you use this link it will take you right to their streaming server bypassing the intermediate IP filtering to check for Aussie-only registered WAN addresses.
If you can’t get in there, go to the Stan James unofficial in studio broadcast:
http://stanjames.teamtalk.com/StanJames/Ashes_Popup
This was so-so at the start of the 1st test, but they’ve got a lot better in a hurry.
Go Hoggard! (a true northern hero)
December 5th, 2006 at 1.09 am
ABS radio link is working, watching on directv in Texas
December 5th, 2006 at 1.12 am
Sorry…..typo… ABC Australia radio commentary is on right now.
December 5th, 2006 at 1.19 am
I suggest that those of us outside the UK & Oz bookmark both the ABC grandstand and Stan James teamtalk links.
December 5th, 2006 at 1.32 am
looking bad boys, I wouldn’t bother listening if i were you
December 5th, 2006 at 2.07 am
TMS on Penguin back on
December 5th, 2006 at 3.19 am
Looks like the R4 voice-loop is off between lunch and tea, so TMS is up, but it kicks in after the tea interval shipping forecast. This is painful, though.
December 5th, 2006 at 3.29 am
The Stan James team are giving very insightful commentary right now just after lunch — as Jones is caught close in by Hayden off Lee to make it 6 down for 94. If you’re not getting a good TMS feed, try them. ABC has dropped for me, so I’m down to my “decent” backup.
December 5th, 2006 at 5.29 am
All together now: “Oh mighty Gods of Shipping Forecast, hear our prayers, do not send us the dark angel of Rights Restrictions on this, the last day of the second test. Amen.”
December 5th, 2006 at 5.32 am
Bugger. This is why I don’t go to Church.
December 5th, 2006 at 5.34 am
why why why
December 5th, 2006 at 5.38 am
The penguin link a bit higher still works, number 110630
December 5th, 2006 at 6.08 am
The penguin link just above went down for me….anyone else experiencing same problem?
December 5th, 2006 at 6.51 am
Penguin working ok for me in the USA. Shocking display though, OZ need 89 from 21 overs to win. A magnificent capitulation from England, only thing to do is hit the booze before the tears flow.
December 5th, 2006 at 7.03 am
And…..we are being slapped around all over the place. Aus just hit 100.
December 5th, 2006 at 7.10 am
This defeat could be up there with Dennis Taylor over Steve Davis in the snooker. Wonder what shane Warne would look like with those upside down Dennis Taylor specs on. Maybe the England batsmen could have done with those specs in the second innings. Aus 108/2, 60 needed for victory.
December 5th, 2006 at 7.16 am
Does anyone know a different game that I can follow; an alternative means to crush my hopes and dreams?
December 5th, 2006 at 7.22 am
HOWZAT….Ponting out caught for 49. Just after the drinks break, our lads may have had a wee nip in their tea. Always said we could do it…….:)
December 5th, 2006 at 7.24 am
Is this the bit in the script where Giles takes a double-Hattrick?
December 5th, 2006 at 7.27 am
Another one, Strauss catches Damien Martyn off Flintoff. Come on lads. Dare we dream, dare we believe. 121/4
December 5th, 2006 at 7.39 am
Flipping heck, call the keystone cops, Aus just ran 7 runs off a ball.
December 5th, 2006 at 7.48 am
Currently praying for rain
December 5th, 2006 at 7.52 am
A music teacher once told me this african rain song, here goes.
Flea, fly, flea fly flo, gomala gomala gomala fleaster, oh nana nana na fleaster, epi wemy epi wemy oh wah wawa, epi wemy epi wemy oh wah wa wudywudy, epp belly ubba wubba bo bo da skeepandash
December 5th, 2006 at 7.55 am
Well its worked, its absolutely lashing down in my study, I’m soaked. Off to bed. Its currently 148/4
December 5th, 2006 at 8.32 am
and so i sit here empty mug and a few choc digestives and contemplate….maybe in can get into NFL.
at least nobody in Chicago knows about cricket. There will be no reminder thankfully.
December 9th, 2006 at 10.56 am
I’m in germany and apparently eligible to watch CA vid stream but either CA has enough subscribers or the registration process and the site is the mess it seems to be: First, my registration with CATV was apparently successful but the system denied access but offered an access upgrade link which again denied access..And you can’t use your ACF log-in details to enter the TV site as you have to wait “up to” 7 days for your ACF registration details to go on the system. But perhaps if you put CA- in front of your CFA log-in name you “can try” to log in to CATV (huh?? just join up the wires under the dash if the key doesn’t work – what sort of backyard job is that?). Well that doesn’t work either. And the CATV FAQ is a total rambling dog’s breakfast with a customers service link that doesn’t exist (a small link at the bottom of the page exists for technical problems). Please stick with knocking a pencil on the desk to simulate bat striking ball CA, you are now out of your depth.
December 9th, 2006 at 11.43 am
Gb
I understand where you are coming from but just play it simple a la Paul Collingwood! Ignore the dog’s brekkie and sign in with a new identity from scratch and pay the 24.95 straight away(my previous Cricket Australia ‘identity’ wasn’t of any use of course)and it will be pure sailing thenceforth – unlike the actual cricket…
Seriously, the sound/visual quality is brill, better than Willow tv even. Seems to be run by premiumtv in the UK.
December 14th, 2006 at 2.43 am
The Ashes in Perth, all five days sold out according to my sandgrouper associates.
http://www.penguinradio.com/search/play.php?id=110630
http://www.penguinradio.com/search/play.php?id=102608
Both the BBC and ABC realplayer links above are working.
I’m listening to the soapdodgers due to their superior private school education. With their polish and vocab it sound like a shakespearean tragedy when the inevitable happens.
Oh balls! Jeff “valium” Lawson. Back to the ABC.
December 14th, 2006 at 3.12 am
Found the video for the http://www.sopcast.org webstreamer.
Find the stuff here: http://www.cricket4u.net/
December 14th, 2006 at 3.19 am
I’m quite possibly the only person still following this thread, but: TMS working via Penguin Radio this morning:
http://www.penguinradio.com/search/play.php?id=102608
And I have finally succumbed and paid $60 to watch Willow TV. Probably a foolish move considering the Ashes will more than likely be settled in the 3rd test. Hohum.
December 14th, 2006 at 4.14 am
For test #3, I’m still using the ABC streaming feed at:
December 14th, 2006 at 7.21 am
still following as well tai tai!
looking for TMS if anyone has found it?
Go Monty
December 14th, 2006 at 7.32 am
At tea: Oz 6 wickets gone for 184. I’m into the Sopcast internet TV feed right now. Not bad at all…only a few glitches. Great to *see* some Ashes cricket and for it to be such good stuff!
December 14th, 2006 at 7.42 am
Smart move Tai Tai to start up a ’save Flopsy campaign’ and use the dosh collected to fund your viewing of a ‘dominant’ England on Willow tv…
Are they using the Sky UK commentators?
December 14th, 2006 at 8.01 am
Haha! Indeed, it was a tough choice whether to save the bunny or watch the cricket and the rabbit lost out by a hare…
Yes, they’re streaming the Sky Sports coverage. Wish I’d done this from the word go really!
December 14th, 2006 at 10.08 pm
right ok.. lets not get carried away with monty’s first five wicket haul, versus australia…..at perth…………..where no spinner from england has ever taken five wickets!… any link… all live links… gimme gimme gimme
Keep the dream alive… as long as we’re in with a chance… i’m here.
Rich
(Still following this link despite the lack of sleep it may cause… how i miss sky)
December 15th, 2006 at 2.20 am

Sopcast at channel 15408 under test channels.
December 15th, 2006 at 3.33 am
Spoke too soon, now the sopcast is back at channel 12736.
Carna Poms! (Carn Peitersen?) I’ve got even money on ‘em escaping from a whitewash.
Great to get some cricket in California instead of overhyped guff.
December 15th, 2006 at 3.56 am
it is possible to listen to the abc ashes coverage from China?
December 15th, 2006 at 4.02 am
ChinaMan: Yes, I’m in Beijing and you can get the ABC coverage here: http://www.penguinradio.com/search/play.php?id=110630
Whereabouts are you?
December 15th, 2006 at 4.08 am
Try these links ChinaMan
http://www.penguinradio.com/search/play.php?id=110630
http://www.penguinradio.com/search/play.php?id=102608
you’ll need realplayer.
December 15th, 2006 at 4.11 am
everytime i load the sopcast channel it bounces me offline…any ideas anyone?
December 15th, 2006 at 4.23 am
Sopcast keeps bouncing me offline – any ideas?
December 15th, 2006 at 4.40 am
Sopcast cricket is broadcast by individuals or maybe a very small business with the TV feed, a PC with a cable card and decoder, and maybe another TV picking up the feed, transcoding it on the fly and pumping it out again. the more people try to connect, the worse the feed becomes.
December 15th, 2006 at 4.50 am
For ashes radio coverage use the ABC internet streaming feed:
http://www.abc.net.au/streaming/events/live720.asx
That should get you around the not-in-Oz IP blocking if you connect though a radio station website.
The Stan James teamtalk “in studio†commentary is not bad at all, and serves as my fallback if I can’t gatecrash anything else:
http://stanjames.teamtalk.com/StanJames/Ashes_Popup
They’ve improved enormously with each test.
December 15th, 2006 at 4.59 am
so you need a tv card to watch sopcast?
that would explain why i haven’t been able to tune in
thanks steven
December 15th, 2006 at 5.05 am
You don’t need a TV card to see the streaming feed from Sopcast. I can’t connect to Sopcast right now. It’s highly likely that the person broadcasting simply has too many people connecting for the horsepower of his “service”.
December 15th, 2006 at 5.33 am
Bloody shipping news – TMS via penguin is blocked now. Keep trying I guess.
December 15th, 2006 at 6.21 am
time for some KP fireworks!!
December 15th, 2006 at 11.49 pm
Thanks for posting this info, folks. The Sopcast feed is still looking good here. In fact, most of the time it is looking better than my TV. My thanks go out to the person(s) who organized the http://www.cricket4u.net/ sopcast. Thanks also to penguin.
December 16th, 2006 at 2.32 am
Trevor is effusive in his thanks – wonder if he is thankful to Duncan Stanley Fletcher for preparing the team so well and holding back Monty til the 3rd Test…
December 16th, 2006 at 2.46 am
All broadcasts appear to be blocked since ABC Australia is licencing the broadcast.
December 16th, 2006 at 3.05 am
For ashes radio coverage use the ABC internet streaming feed. Pay attention. Unless you are hidden behind a proxy server pretending to be in Oz you must go directly to the feed at the source. So go to:
http://www.abc.net.au/streaming/events/live720.asx
That’s the one I use to get to it in Southern Califnornia. It will get you around the not-in-Oz IP blocking if you’ve been trying to connect though a radio station website.
Failing that, the Stan James teamtalk “in studio†commentary is not bad at all, and serves as my fallback if I can’t gatecrash anything else:
http://stanjames.teamtalk.com/StanJames/Ashes_Popup
They’ve improved enormously with each test.
Thought: you might want to try clearing your browser cache before trying to connect.
December 16th, 2006 at 4.06 am
I’ve downloaded sopcast but channel 13117 isn’t connecting and it’s not streaming off http://www.cricket4u.net/ when I click on the link because it says I haven’t downloaded the sopcast software? Wondering if anyone could help me out?
December 17th, 2006 at 2.37 am
Dan Make sure you are using ie not firefox….
December 17th, 2006 at 7.01 am
Dan: The sopcast “plugin” is actually an ActiveX control (.ocx), which only IE supports (God bless Microsoft for their proprietary ways)
Everyone: Thanks for all the links – I’ve been enjoying Sopcast/ABC radio until 2 am the past few nights here in Vancouver
December 18th, 2006 at 2.43 am
Indian stuck in Chicago:
The penguinradio link at
http://www.penguinradio.com/search/play.php?id=110630
works; it streams the ABC Radio. You will require Real-Player
December 18th, 2006 at 3.40 am
Thanks to all who posted the Stan James url. I am in Alabama and it has been a godsend. I was so desparate that several nights I listened to the two Indian fellows on cricbuzz. Go England.
December 18th, 2006 at 4.17 pm
Thanks to everybody who shared links to the broadcasts. And thanks to the ‘broadcasters’ of cricket4u.net. I really enjoyed watching the matches on Sopcast, and suspect the final two matches will be interesting too (unless either side gives up their pride in the game).
As for the being “thankful to Duncan Fletcher,” what I saw was the best cricket I have seen in 30 years of memories of the game. I hadn’t seen the brilliant TV replays of both side’s spinners before. Ihave been out of touch for the last decade, no cricket in California, up until now. The era I last seriously watched the game was the era of Lillian Thompson, and I didn’t get the chance to appreciate the art of the spin bowlers back then. Speed was the media focus.
So thanks to everybody for the links. I was in Australia last month, and I was appalled when I got home and found the tests were blacked out…
December 25th, 2006 at 11.49 pm
Here I am on Christmas Day at my youngest brother’s house in Southern California trying to avoid doing anything (and escape detection) while I huddle over my nephews’ PC! I’ll try to get Sopcast working on this box, but if not I’ve already checked the feed for ABC and Stan James. A-OK.
Once again here are those online radio links for anyone trying to get hooked up for coverage of the 4th test.
ABC internet streaming feed:

That’s the one I use to get to it in Southern California. It will get you around the not-in-Oz IP blocking if you’ve been trying to connect though a radio station website.
Stan James teamtalk “in studio†commentary is not bad at all, and serves as my fallback if I can’t get the ABC feed:

They’ve improved enormously with each test.
Thought: you might want to try clearing your browser cache before trying to connect.

Oh Great – well, on the last day of the last test ABC radio finally block their only operating radio feed. Very clever indeed, any gratitude that I had for the backdoor was turned into spite this morning…
The sopcast feed is down, as far as I can see, and in any case Cricket4u.net’s advertisers have been sending Flash Viruses to me whenever I am silly enough to use Internet Explorer to log in to them…
Anyway, Stan James’ team seems to be doing a pretty good job at the moment…

The ABC internal feed at
