  • I think those speed guns are a load of crap. Somehow the white ball goes faster - I bowled 83-84mph in the Test match, and 93mph in the one-dayers. It's crazy. I hadn't bowled a ball for ten days.

Worth keeping your eye on this match. Especially with Australia two down for not very many. Live scorecard.

I am keeping my both eyes… and as usual couple of early wickets do not scare the Aussies and ring alarm bells as Ponting and Martyn started to build the innings together and Australia cruises along comfortably at 62 for 2.

Kiwi’s alway a big danger when you’re an Aussie. This side always steps up when they play us. Fascinating - I want to us to beat them almost as much as I want us to beat England, but should that not happen, I’ll be jumping on their bandwagon quick smart.

Yeah, you’re right Stu. We’ve a funny relationship with the Kiwi’s - we hate losing to them (in anything: cricket, netball, rugby codes), but they just step up when they play us. Then, if they are doing well, and we’re gone, pretty much all of Australia backs them to the hilt.
Being the Champion$ Trophy, it’s hard to care too much - but no-one likes to lose.

Yeh - but it doesn’t go the other way though. Kiwi’s would support anyone before Australia :-)

I’ve noticed that when McGrath or Australia are doing poorly we always read a lot of posts about how Glen McGrath is too old and Australia are losing their dominace. When Glen puts in a good performance nothing is ever mentioned in this blog.

What do you expect Tim - it’s hardly an Aussie friendly place here, is it?
Although we can’t judge, purely on last night’s form, he’s starting to look good again, isn’t he? He has a tendency to ease into the season of late. Of course, the lay off may have had a lot to do with that - but his detractors continually discount relevant factors such as that, don’t they?
Vettori and Oram did themselves proud, didn’t they - again. I’d like to see the stats on how many times they’ve had to step up - and have.
Stu: sibling rivalry I reckon. As the big brother, we’re just more inclined to look after the baby of the family!

think it’s about time this myth of New Zealand stepping up their game against australia was put to bed. NZ haven’t won a test match against oz since 1992. They’ve lost 16 of the last 18 ODIs.

    Hardly an imposing record………

    Sigh.

But I do remember us beating Australia in a wonderful one-day match here in Wellington last December, and breaking the record to do so. It is a joy that lasts for days when we beat Australia. But the fact is we’re much more likely to beat them at rugby than cricket.

The fast bowlers were getting some amazing movement off the pitch in Wednesday’s game — not just McGrath but Mills and Bond too.
