England v India, 1st match, Jaipur

Just woken up to find England in a mess against India. Forgot to put a holding post up here - but then it's all thoroughly dull, isn't it? Leave a comment if you can stand the pain - they're nine down at the moment.

It wasnt a inspiring performance from England, but they can atleast take heart from the fact that they made India work hard for their runs! India always has the habit of making heavy weather of chases, but they still need a little help from the bowlers and fielders!
Probably the biggest take-home for England is the fact that KP took a brilliant catch! With the Ashes coming up they dont want KP to repeat his catching heroics from lat summer!

If England had managed to scrape together another 40 or 50 it might have been interesting. I just had the radio commentary rather than Sky, but it sounded like Anderson and Mahmood bowled well and Harmison got his radar after a disastrous start.
I think it was Jeremy Coney that said Dalrymple was getting some spin ? Maybe someone with Sky can confirm that.
Apart from that, disappointing, but not really surprising. Although one of KP or Collingwood really should have dug in.

Top marks for Cricinfo’s Stats Editor S Rajesh for his responsible reporting of Umpire Harper’s LBW decision against Ian Bell:
“Ian Bell was beaten by an indipper from Munaf Patel, and though replays clearly the ball to be going over the top of the stumps, umpire Darryl Harper decided otherwise.”
Although Daryl Harper won’t give himself top marks when he sees the decision on the CD he gets after the match from the ICC, feedback systems are in place for all umpires, and he’ll be focusing on his judgement of height in upcoming matches.
