I should get a job with The Sun. I’m that good. If you haven’t deciphered my witty headline, then be reminded that Mark Ramprakash - former England cricketer, current Surrey bowling destroyer - is appearing on Strictly Come Dancing this evening. As the bloke who runs a site of the similar name to this blog often says, HOW GOOD IS THAT? Well Andy - and Mark - not very good, frankly. But it should be entertaining at least.
But enough of that, here’s a photo from sunny Salcombe

Nice pix from Devon, Will. Are you anywhere nere Strete? I had a holiday near there some years ago and I’m sure that’s the place that inspired The League of Gentlemen to come up with Royston Vasey.
I remember going to buy a lottery ticket from the local post office/village shop/newsagents and asking this bloke with funny eyes for a ticket.
“Lottery?” He asked in a Jethro kind of way but with more bewilderment (it really was that sort of stereotype).
I said: “yes a draw ticket for tonight’s lottery”
“what’s that then”
I pointed at the lottery terminal and the halfwit summoned his wife.
Well it was funny at the time.

Strete’s just up the road mate yeah. Comically (or not, for the victims) there’ve been a couple of murders there in recent years. It’s a pretty dead place to be honest, not my favourite - but the area is stunning (and one of the best coastal roads in the South West, reckons I)

So if you’re near the Tank, you must know the boozer that does decent real ale and lovely fish and chips then?

When we went to Slapton the only two pubs in the village were both run by the same bloke (called Tony I think). Funny thing is that he knew my home town (Whitstable) very well.
He asked me if I knew the Royal Naval Reserve (in Whitstable). Ironically I worked there at the time - so I was able to tell him that I knew it very well indeed.
Amazing really - you drive 300 miles and meet someone who knows your local. (that’s your local not you’re local).

Guess Tony’s moved on…Sandra runs the Queens’ Arms. The Tower’s a lovely place but a wee bit expensive. Queens, you get a slap-up meal and a few drinks all in for £20. Can’t be bad.
