Ponting and Buchanan under fire from Ritchie

By Will 2 years ago, at the start of October Leave a comment on this post

God it’s been a tough weekend. Walking on the beach; sitting in the pub, sitting in another pub overlooking another beach; walking on the cliffs overlooking a beach; eating fresh fish in our local pub with a beer and walking the three minutes to our house; walking round Salcombe and eating far too many pasties. I’m exhausted with my gluttonous relaxation. So it’s with tired eyes I read of Greg Ritchie’s bashing of John Buchanan and Ricky Ponting.

If Australia’s coach and captain remain in power, Ritchie thinks England will win the Ashes.

“Australia would win the Ashes if Shane Warne was captain,” Ritchie was quoted in The Sydney Morning Herald. “On the field, he [Ponting] doesn’t know what’s going on. England’s bowlers have our measure.”

As much as i enjoy the sentiment, you would have to dismiss Ritchie’s comments as pure buffoonery.

Not sure if I totally agree with himi wrt to Warne. But Ponting is not captaincy material. He’s too much of a hot-head to be a good captain.

Ritchie! Gimme a break. (You know you sucked me in - hook line and sinker there Will). Ritchie Benaud was in the press this morning and I was really worried when I thought he’d come out against Ponting and thought England would win the Ashes - but Greg “FatCat” Ritche - seriously…

I dunno, I think Ritchie has a point. Not sure about Buchanan, although Warne doesn’t seem too impressed by him, but Ponting was hopeless in England last year. Never mind the appalling decision to put England in to bat, his rant when run out by Gary Pratt really told England they had his number.

Why not give the captaincy to Brett Lee? It would be an interesting response to England giving it to Flintoff.

Yeh - I must admit to not being a huge Ponting for Captain fan. Warne couldn’t done it. Can’t see Brett Lee holding up - not a fast bowler for captain fan either. They have to be very emotional and hostile to do their job and quite the opposite to be captain. Flintoff could well be an exception to this rule, again proving his all round brilliance. If only Michael Hussey had been selected 10 years ago, it would be a no brainer!

    Stu - it’s Richie Benaud - no T!

Ha! Yeh that’s right I should have realised. I was too busy jumping to conclusions to worry about minor things like a T!! (Good one)

The ultimate mark of success, taste, talent and sophistication can now be acknowledged as criticism by Greg Ritchie. A plague on any media outlet which acknowledges his existence, let alone publishes his febrile mumblings. Even if he is right.
