Angus Bell, who has been all over the place playing and writing about cricket (and other things), emailed a couple of photos to continue the theme in this post. Statuesque cricket poses.

I should explain these photos are from Statue Park in Budapest, where cricket has been played since the 1890s. Sadly, the closure of the Sri Lankan Embassy a few years ago spelled disaster for the Magyar Cricket Club. We (some Chinese-Greek-Malaysian-Irish-Australians and I) tried to resurrect the sport with this impromptu game involving Lenin at cover point.

The second photo clearly shows the Soviets took fielding practice seriously, while the third pic is of a Comrade Mark Ramprakash celebrating with his top off.

The book, ‘Slogging The Slavs: A Paranormal Cricket Tour From The Baltic To The Bosphorus’ will be out by Fat Controller in early November. I’ve posted more pics and article links on http://www.angusjjbell.com.

Great photos, Angus. And great news – we have just completed our first season of the Hungarian Cricket League. We have also been travelling and plan more next year – including to some of the teams you helped set up. All info at http://www.hungary4cricket.com
