Your highlights of the summer

See that? That fleeting flash was our summer - and it’s gone. It’s the end of the season chaps, so what has your highlight been?

Sussex’s double.

Monty’s dismissal of, well, anyone you choose.

England’s hilarious one-day performance against Sri Lanka.

England’s less hilarious one-day performance against Pakistan.

So, throwing it open to the dangerous stump-wielding mob, what moment or event has been your pick of the summer? Need not be from the list above…those are just suggestions.

Well, from the international summer, it’s got to be Inzy out–hit wicket! That was class. Or, Kevin Pietersen’s fantastic 158 at Lord’s. It’s so hard to choose!

County-wise, I’m a Hants supporter, so it’d have to be one of Hants getting promoted yesterday, steam-rollering Glamorgan, or Warnie’s 7-99 (not going into his antics off-field during that match!).

Can’t believe it’s all over for another six months. No sitting in the sun with a pint or several, listening to the sounds of the cricket field: the leather on willow, “howzats”, (and all the Aussie overseas players) and gazing out over the Rosy. When’s the first match of next season?!

Kevin Pietersen’s reverse sweep. Just unbelievable.

Monty’s six. Showing Mr Fletcher a thing or two. Infact anything to do with Monty. Just so good to see someone enjoying England cricket so much. Keep him in all the sides forever.

After watching Mike Procter’s Glos beat Sussx in the early 70s Gillette Cup final taught me what isolated hopeless couch-hugging cricketwatching could cost you emotionally it’s been glorious to see confidence embodied in the players and the Sussex CCC messageboard. Championship aside, where Mushy rules the waves, and C&G final aside with Kirtley’s sweet success, two quite ordinary moments from the weird elongated season which folk call professional cricket: C&G Trophy of 28 May where we’re chasing 296 vs Essex, I mean get real we all saw Herschelle Gibbs but this is serious, and we are 56/4 with Prior Yardy Adams gone all over and the absurdly talented Muzza Goodwin takes us home with 158*; then next T20 on 30 June vs nasty Surry, again we’re just out at 5/94 when Yardy and Hoppa take us home on TV with the simplest deft strokeplay which makes me sure Yardy will be England’s Bevan nay Hussey for years to come, and Hoppa is then so calm and easy and unassuming in interview that of course we should know the ordinary boys can strike.
