The season draws to a close

By Will 4 years ago, mid-September Add your comment below

Surely it’s not that time again. September? It still feels like mid-May! Yet it’s true; another season draws to a close, and what a hectic summer it has been. I’m off to Southampton on Wednesday to see Lancashire and Hampshire – should be a belting match, one Lancashire need to win if they’re to see off Sussex for the title. What have been your highlights and lowlights of the summer?

Highlight – Monty Panesar’s control, Ian Bell’s hints that the promise can be fulfilled, Mahela Jayawardene’s poise, Chris Read ‘keeping in the spotlight again, Michael Yardy’s warrior spirit. My mate Parag hitting six on the last ball of the game last Sunday to tie our club game…

Lowlight – Ovalgate the morning after – the realization that cricket was becoming a political football. Too much rain.

great comment from justcoz… mirrors my highs and lows of the summer. one other high… sitting at the rose bowl in early May, having the privelage of watching shane warne completely dominate and win a match… it was the c&g game against essex… he got late runs, a catch, a run out (ran out the non striker andy flower with a BRILLIANT bit of quick thinking) and 2 wickets in 2 balls. the game had been very much essex’s for the winning, but warney had other ideas. his bowling changes were inspired and his total genius was awe-inspiring. the tabloids that sunday preferred to focus on his mid week antics with a couple of slappers…we’ll forgive him that, we are very lucky to have him playing such committed cricket in england. what’s a bit of rough and tumble in his spare time got to do with the readers of the news of the world- let’s not put him off, warney should consider a career in politics in england next i reckon. vote shane.
