So then, the series is alive (sort of). It’s 2-1 to Pakistan and England at least have a chance to level it. It’s also Paul Collingwood’s 100th one-dayer today. Anyway, leave your thoughts and comments below. I think Emma is at the game so will no doubt provide some musings later.

i’m having trouble finding the results of the caption competitions, i’m guessing Will runs the thing seeing as he is particular fondness for photography.

Looks like it will end up 2-2, England should definitely be the happier of the two teams concerning the result - but I think most people know which team is more likely to win the World Cup…

It was a fun match and a good way to end the summer. By the way, I don’t see either of these teams winning the World Cup. If the Aussies don’t win it again, my dark horse candidate is Sri Lanka. They’ve been batting other teams out of matches lately, and on the bowling side they have Murali to apply pressure, and their other bowlers just have to be economical, which doesn’t require blazing pace. They won’t get through the tournament without any losses, but if their batsmen fire at the right time they can win the big matches.

Of course there’s still a long time between now and the World Cup.

Good job England. All credit to Mahmood, I’d have dropped him, the selector’s didn’t and he proved his worth. If he can up his consistancy he’ll be an assest to the team - but I think that’s my biggest doubt - can he do it every time!
So who’d have thought it - the summer has ended on a very positive note - a drawn one day series against all the odds and a convincingly won test series just before it. Australia, don’t get too complacent yet!

I’m glad they kept faith with Sajid, previous regimes would not have done I suspect. Listening on TMS, I got a little tired of CMJ suggesting opening the bowling in Australia with Hoggard and Lewis. I think Lewis has bowled well at the beginning of each innings in helpful conditions, but if I tuned in to hear the team news that he’s opening the bowling with Hoggard in Australia, I think I’d throw something at the radio and then go back to sleep.

I don’t think either team will win the World Cup either. I think Pakistan would have a better chance with Younis as captain. Inzy would go into a strop the first decision that went against them. It’s always foolish to bet against the Aussies, but I may place a small wager on the West Indies.

I’m as much a Jones fan as anybody, but to be fair to Read, I cannot see than Geraint would have played that ball any differently. They’re both aggressive batsmen. But if Jones wants to get his place back, he needs to perform consistently with the bat for Kent, which he hasn’t done as yet.

u cant tell if he would have played it diffrently! he may have skipped down the pitch a knocked it for 6, ??? u cant tell. OH well i just think taking read to the ashes is an awful idear. Jones is due runs…and i would bet my house and money on him getting them at the ashes, would i bet that on read to? WOuld i FECK.
