It depends on what happens on Friday. If he can present clear evidence that the ball was tampered with, then he’ll be vindicated - although serious questions will remain over his modus operandi and professional judgement.

If he can’t, then forget ‘resignation’ - he should be sacked. Either way, I think his future as a Test Match umpire will be untenable. Can you honestly see a situation where he only umpires ‘white’ tests?

Of course not. However, the BCCI are tonight acting like a soothing shampoo for Darrell. I stuck it up at Cricinfo a couple of hours ago. In fact I’ll stick a post up separately…

BCCI is just playing the game to put more pressure on Pakistan. I feel there was no need for them to issue a statement, but was only made so that PCB should know early on that BCCI will not stand up when and if they go on the boycott.

I suspect - the ball tampering will be a tough one for Hair and Pakistan will walk away on that charge, the other charge will stand and an 8 match ban. This will then be the testing time for PCB. If they play the first one day before the appeal the world will think it left its captain out to dry. So most likely they will protest to the extent of threatening to boycott this will create pressure on ICC (and also on PCB) but on the appeal they might withdraw the penalty and only charge 100% match fee - ALL THIS IS BALL TAMPERING CHARGE IS DROPPED. If the ball tampering stands which i doubt it will then we have the onus on PCB to really go broke for a full boycott.

Get ready to be screwed by another Aussie, Hair’s mate Malcom Speed on Friday. After all country does matter. How could Malcom see another Kangroo’s ego go down the toilet.

pakistan will be penalized to the maximum extent and GOD will get away without a scratch because he did everything according to the law… the law leaves everything to the umpire’s decision.. so this is a no win situation for pakistan.. not playing the one days will only damage pakistan.. they will be baned by icc… hair once again will have the last laugh.. there is no accountability for umpires.. it is all their judgements.. so there you have it.. unless the laws are changed to the umpire needs to provide evidence etc.. pak has no chance of getting anything out of the hearing..

An officious who set aside basic manners, decency, courtesy and his own dignity in acting in the high handed manner that he did.

With the stakes as high as they are now in International Cricket, and the player constantly at the receiving end - be it for appealing, slow overs or the innuendo of unfair practices, I do believe the ICC and umpires need to be “sensitised”.

Ths is sport - it is not a police state for the kind of high-handed and strong tactics being employed. Let the ICC not forget they they are there at the pleasure of the cricketing world, and and at this moment, they invoke our ire and displeasure.

There is no place in the sport for the Hair’s of this world - as much as the Aussies may disagree, just as there was no room left for Shakoor Rana.

If the ICC were to be as blind as they have been, I dare say that there will be dramatic polarisation in cricket - BCCI is playing a game and will call for its pound of flesh at the appropriate time.

Personally, I think the ball tampering charge will be ‘not proven’. Madugalle will let that one go. However, the actions of Inzamam after the tea interval will be punished, and punished heavily. Pakistan were given the chance to return to the field of play by BOTH umpires and threw it back in their faces.

Ah-jun says “Let the ICC not forget they they are there at the pleasure of the cricketing world.” WRONG. The ICC are there to oversee cricket, without favour, they are not puppets or figurines pushed into power by the cricketing world. If you start challenging the authorities of whatever sport you play, you better have damn good reason to. Inzamam and the Pakistan authorities do not have that reason, dislike of any particular official is not enough.
