Thursday is Archive day on Cricinfo, and we’ve dug out a piece from Wisden Cricket Monthly of Ian Chappell on captaining the two terror twins, Dennis Lillee and Jeff Thomson. Check it out.

    Aye, brilliant article.

A lot of people are ready to put a song and dance over Richie Benaud’s commentry, but really two of the finest for me are Henry Blofield and Ian Chappel.

Henry has more charachter than Benaud and Chappel’s insight is far more provocative.

Regardless, yes, the article was a lot of fun to read. I enjoyed the section on how its widely believed that Ian Chappel’s captaincy saw the genesis of the Australia’s sledging habits.

    Overall, well written.

    Dear Sir Ian Chappel:

I live in Toronto, Canada. Here we cricket fans are a minority. However, we do have a 24-hour cricket channel (pay per view or monthly fees basis). Last night I turned on my cricket channel and saw the match between New Zealand Vs. England (Live) saying it was the 3rd National Bank ODI. I was half an hour into the match so I missed the opening comments. I think Ian Chappel and Tony Kozier were commenting. The sceneries were breathtaking. But could not figure out where was it being played. So, I called my brother in Melbourne. He was watching the same game on their Channel 9. He said it was being played in Hobart - Tasmania. I opened up my world atlas and found out where it was.

The point I am making is whether someone could insert the name of the cricket venue and the date beside the score board or TV Caption. These games are shown over and over again and often we can not figure out where and when they were played. Just 3rd ODI National Bank Series does not mean much here. Also, if the revered commentators like Richie Benaud, Mark taylor, Tony Greig, Ian Healy, etc. could utter the name of the city (not the local name of the famous stadium) and the date of the match being played at some regular intervals, this would eliminate the confusions.

I was wondering if you could help us in this remote part of the cricket world.

    Sincerely,

    Habib Kabir
