  • I think those speed guns are a load of crap. Somehow the white ball goes faster - I bowled 83-84mph in the Test match, and 93mph in the one-dayers. It's crazy. I hadn't bowled a ball for ten days.

    Ah, St Lucia - one of the loveliest Caribbean islands, and one of the finest cricket grounds. Oprah Winfrey listed it in her top ten things to see in the world. England are very fortunate to be playing here in the World Cup. They’ve got Canada in their group, too, so there should be a bit of a slaughter on spectacle.

    I was in St Lucia three months ago and headed down to a cricket field for practice. They had cows cutting the grass. Only four other cricketers turned out for training, yet more than a hundred kids rocked up to football practice next door. It’s a worrying trend.
