  • "The fact is that once I was playing again I was automatically available for everything on the schedule and that meant Stanford. I make no apologies for that and, as for the suggestion that I should waive the fee or give it to charity, I don't see why I should be a special case."
Steve Harmison feels strongly about suggestions that he came out of one-day retirement in order to play the Stanford Twenty20 for 20

England v Pakistan, 3rd Test, Headingley, 5th day

By Will 2 years ago, mid-August Leave a comment on this post

Morning all. We have a Test match on our hands today, a bit of a thriller too. Pakistan need 323 to win; England need 10 wickets. All eyes point to Monty Panesar who, one gets the feeling, Andrew Strauss is banking on to deliver the goods again.

Considering Danish Kaneria actually gained some turn for once yesterday - he has hardly spun it all series - and bearing in mind Monty has outbowled him thus far in the series, Strauss’s logic is sound enough.

I’ll be on ball-by-ball at Cricinfo again, but in the meantime leave your thoughts below and get chatting!

Today we will see at what level Panesar is operating; on a fifth day wicket given reasonable support from his seamers; a good spinner should get his team into a winning position, this is a big day for both Panesar and England.

England really need to show they can win these kind of games. I hope we come out really positive. Hoggy needs to find some swing and Panesar needs to be ready to bowl plenty of overs.

and a wicket maiden to Monty. Yahoo! We are slowing creeping in for the kill now. If we can just get Inzy to try for hit the ball twice …? ;)

What an extraordinary turnaround - well done England!!

Couple of thoughts - has anyone else been out hit wicket and stumped in the same Test Match as Inzi managed in this one?

And, for our Aussie readers, would they care to name theit two young world-class players who didn’t tour last year who are stone cold certs (assuming fitness) for the first Ashes Test later this year?

But who on earth is going to captain England Down Under?

Innocent - I’ve just voted for Strauss. I wouldn’t have done a fortnight ago but I have in the back of my mind that it will ease the pressure on Fred - assuming he makes it of course.
